Using MAC PRO or ASUS laptop

Hello Fellow BH....You may notice a similar post like this a few years back or a month ago. But I have a totally different question, and open up my own thread.

I have read a thread earlier which dated a few years back about Mac and PC's. Well I want to ask you opinions. I am planning to buy either an ASUS i7 laptop with Windows running on it OR a MAC PRO i5 with OSX running on it.

My question is that what is the best laptop you can use between the two considering using SEO softwares, designing and editing videos and photos and php programming which I use. I haven't tried out MAC's yet so I am having trouble deciding weather to go for MAC or stay on ASUS windows. Some say 95% of all SEO softwares are built for windows and won't run on MAC. And with regards to designing and editing photos and videos MAC's are good in rendering this type of thing.

I am choosing from this variant of laptops:
MACBook PRO (MC371) 15?, 2.4GHz, 320gb, i5 (@ OSX)
Asus N53JQ-SZ149V Core i7 nVdia GF GT425 1GB VRAM (@ Windows)

Anybody can give me advice on this? It would greatly help sharing your knowledge and experience on this part. And any advantage and disadvantage in running Windows on MAC as well. Thanks for the help guys...... :)

PC is my personal choice but let me tell you why.

If you're into music business and making records and mastering jobs then you simply have to use MAC as many of the software work only on MACs.

If we are talking about the performance, MAC is not a better option when you look at the price you pay. For a good MACs money you can get even better PCs with speed.

If we are talking about SEO and Black Hat I would simply go with PCs as around %90 of the software I use work only on PCs.
 
Other posters are right that Mac is now the same hardware as PC. But that's only half the story. OSX runs so much more efficiently than Windows that you get better performance on the same hardware.

That said, you'll definitely pay a steep premium for Mac. And maybe the real kicker is, especially if you're in the IM space, you'll almost definitely end up owning Windows anyway and running it in Boot Camp (dual boot) or a VM.

On the one hand that gives you the best of both worlds. On the other hand, it's just one more expense for going Mac.

In my opinion you should go the Mac route only if you have a compelling reason to do so. Otherwise, get the PC and put your money to work on some campaigns.

fwiw, I'm running a dual-boot 17" MacBook Pro and I like it. I do development and need both. And I spend 90% of my time in Windows 7, since that's still where my money is made (which is all that matters at the end of the day).
 
Thanks guys. I already have PC and windows running on it. What I am going to buy is a laptop so I can work mobile. That's why I am asking which do you think is better. the Macbook Pro i5 or the ASUS Core i7. Sometimes I spend a lot of time outside the house so I was thinking rather than taking my time going home back and forth all the time to work on my PC. Why not go mobile.

So i am battling which one to get the Mac or Asus. I know they have there performance going differently but which is suitable if I am more into IM world, SEO money making, php programming, video and photo editing (cause i love photography).

Any past experiences on their performance between the two Laptops? Cause I know you guys might have tried it already. Thanks......
 
in my opinion you should grab the asus.
Mac sux, im working at one, their OS is just crappy.
And most of the software you can find here and on other places just wont on a mac.. so you have to create a virual mashine and stuff -.-

also, if you compare the prices, a mac is waaaaay too expensive compared to a windows laptop.

mac maybe got a better performance with their os but if you dont put 10219412 programms on your asus and keep it clean and fine it will work just well.

Ive got a mac at work and a pc at home. Both around the same performance and my windows pc works faster and smother then my mac.

also.. i dont like the os :P but i said that already.
 
Macs may be prettier but you will have less software issues on a PC. I'm surprised the linux nuthuggers haven't started flaming this thread.
 
Mac :). You can install windows if you like... on the other side if you want to instal MAC OS on Asus...you will fail :P.

Care to explain why? I'm planning to buy ASUS laptop too. Is it possible to install crack version of MAC OS there? Or is it possible to find a crack version of MAC?
 
On Mac you can use dual boot and install windows ( very simple )
On Asus it's verry hard to install Mac OS because of hardware - 99% you will fail. :) I tryed very much to install Mac OS on my pc but i fail aswell...

Just because Mac OS is just for MAC. There are some "cracked" versions, but many of them will fail at setup...and need some kind of drivers called kms if i remember good...need to get sound driver and netword driver....verry hard :).

The problem isn't finding cracked versions of OSX (search hackintosh), it's that Apple controls their hardware (since they don't license their OS for clones). Because of that they don't have drivers for every hardware configuration under the sun like Windows. Apple supports a very narrow range of hardware and there are virtually no 3rd-party drivers for unauthorized hardware.

You *might* be able to get the OS installed (and probably not even that)... but you wouldn't be able to do anything with it.

There are a few notebooks that famously use all mac-compatible components (Dell Mini 10v, for example) that can make excellent and cheap hackintosh clones. But you're not going to get far trying to install OSX (cracked, or not) on unsupported hardware. It's one of the reasons Apple doesn't use cumbersome licensing and activation schemes like M$... you're either running their hardware or you're not. No need for a ton of protection.

So it means that ASUS hardware is not compatible with MAC? what about other brands like Acer etc?

Those are for spec'd component builds (i.e. a desktop where you buy the individual components that are Mac compatible). It's much (much) harder with a notebook where you don't get to spec your components. You pretty much need to find a vendor who builds Mac-compatible boxes out-the-door. Your choices are extremely limited. Desktops are a different story.
 
I outsource all my SEO now so Windows is pretty useless for me.

Mac OS X is nice... if I want to install an app, I just drag and drop... There's no installers or any of that headache. Plus working with media is so nice on a Mac... I record videos for clients, and eveything is drag and drop.

Plus my MacBook Pro goes from off to desktop in 10 seconds... SSD FTW! (getting a little nerdy here...)

Anyway, if you're going to spend the majority of your day doing SEO, skip the Mac... It's probably not worth the extra cash for you. It was worth the extra cash for me because OS X saves me time, and time => money.

Plus, ASUS makes really, really good laptops; I'd say go for it.
 
Jeez, as to running OS X on a PC haven't you heard of the trials and tribulations with Psystar and the ogres from Apple?

Look if you need hand holding a MAC is great solution. I think dual booting is a kludge but you don't sound like you get under the hood that often so a MAC may fit you perfectly! PCs are cheaper and I run multiple Windows and Ubuntu machines for different tasks plus that gives me some redundancy. But if you are a gamer forget the MAC and go PC.
 
Well that is it you guys. Thank you for all of your help and comments. I have decided to go for ASUS and stick with W!ndows for my line of work. Maybe I will buy a Mac's some other time.

There are a number of hacked OSX installs that will work on an Intel or AMD box. I messed around with a hacked version of Snow Leopard that I was running on a AMD Phenom IIx4 box. I got tired of it after a while and lost interest.

Macs are overrated and way too expensive for what they are. My Windows 7 boxes are rock solid.
