Is there any harm to ex-chinese site (i.e. dropped sites that Chinese marketers picked after they were dropped. And the they used it to create their PBN)?

The site is currently dropped, but like 3 pages are still indexed on Google. The backlink is still clean and the former content wans't porn.

unless you want to rank a .cn website, stay away from it. if it was good, it would not have been dropped.

It is a .com domain, and the previous site was an English site before the Chinese got it...

Maybe it had a penalty and when it dropped, the penalty was removed. Because I have has domains that were deindexed. Then I will let it expired. As soon as some else register the domain and put up their content, it gets indexed again

It's not Chinese, it's Japanese. And the site was abused and used as a PBN. Just as hundreds of thousands domains over the years. Forget it and find something clean.

I would treat these japanese/chinese domains as i would treat any domain abused by marketers before. Just don't make the mistake thinking all these foreign language domains are bad because of the language. That is not true at all. It's just more difficult to judge the quality because we usually don't speakthe language , don't even recognize the characters...

If the backlink profile is still fine, clean and worthy enough, Google doesn't store the archived content for obvious reasons except for some cache, and it's not clear they use it for positioning purposes, therefore it's safe to say that you could use them without many risks.

In fact I've been using it so far.

By the way
It's not Chinese, it's Japanese.

Nowadays it's easy to find both.
But it's true that Japanese is more prominent.

A lot of these sites have been "poorly abused": I think you should go a little further in the research that just staying in that. In fact this has provided me a lot of value, since a lot of people like you are rejecting them for the face value. But the previous owner just put some shitty 1 pager with 4 links because probably someone told him that it would be a real deal. The same as thousands of guys around that buy expired domains, use them for 1 or 2 years and leave the community to work in a different topic. Then we find their PBN and we reject them at first.

Really bad idea from my point of view, still great for me, I profit from this. And I find every month a little harder to find pure, clean and cheap domains. Most are not worth the buck, people paying $300+ for real "clean" shit.

That's your approach and I am alright with that, everything has its uses, but I would not touch abused domains with a 6 foot stick. I've seen quite a few cases where the domain got penalized after the registration. Domain got registered, it got indexed, user did not even upload any content and then all of a sudden, manual penalty.

Not to mention that SEO is pretty much about throwing shit against the wall and hoping that something sticks. By avoiding clearly abused domains, you are improving your chance that the domain will work as it should work. And I've been in the domain game long enough to avoid that kind of stuff. Not worth it on my end.

And domains are worth just as much as people are willing to pay for them. That's how market works. And I can see spammed crap going for ridiculous prices at the auctions as well.

I would suggest you avoid it. I had a terrible experience using this type of domain as PBN before.

That is a good point. Why risk it if there are alternatives?
The idea of leveraging these risky domains is not without its charm though. Perhaps you could develop a way to test them before using them?
I would never pay big $$ on an auction for them though.

For testing them you need to control them first and that costs money. I used them in the past for some churn and burn projects, sure. Some worked, some didn't. For long term purposes, meh.

Google translate can be your friend. I tend to stay away from spammy looking expired domains. Maybe as a T3 site pushing a T2, but I wouldn't risk it being T2 and pushing the money site. At least until it gets cleaned up.

Yup, don't be lazy and you will uncover opportunities, others leave on the table. Secret advice right there.
Does apply to...well...anything, really.

So in your system, is carlespen[.]com a good domain?

It has a great wikipedia profile for obvious reasons, but I don't personally like it. There are a ton of domains from several music groups that have been expired, generally I would not bid more than $40-50 for that type of domain (in case I bid, because this domain would have flown away from my radar for sure)

But if you want to push some type of music related niche site, it could be always useful.

The problem with wikipedia url profiling is that it pass 0% juice. And the traffic it provides is useless. For a PBN I will go more on a newspaper/gob/edu profiles than nofollow prominent incoming links.

By the way, this is this type of site, which is "seemingly" clean in terms of "front end" but the profile is not the best. It doesn't apply to the comment I suggested before.

I am also buying many expired domains, and trust me everything goes good until I see those chinese and japanese websites in the archive.
Do not buy them, because they are already used for Pbns and I would prefer domains which are not used for Pns before; and advice you to do the same.

Google translate can be your friend

I wouldn't rely heavily on translate to accurately translate - I've seen enough errors to not depend on it/ take the added risk unless I really have no other options.

Simply put - a marketer dropped it. If they can't find a use for it, you answered your own question OP. I'm sure there might be a few gems in there... but honestly, time is money and I'd rather start putting in the work, than wasting time looking for that gem that someone else dropped purposely.
