users bumping old threads

Hello. Recently I have seen many threads which didn't even have a recent answer, for example couple of days ago, saw a thread that had its last post on 2011, being bumped now, on 2014. And I was wondering, could threads that have no posts for a long time, be locked automatically? Let's say after 2-3 months since the last post?Is there any feature like this on forums?

Maybe it's just me, but I never understood why old threads bother people that much.

I've learned a LOT from old threads. If they get bumped I don't see the problem, maybe it will spark an updated conversation.

It's also interesting to see how things have changed. You can learn a lot from old threads.

Its not that i don't like old threads. I too have learned a lot from these threads. Its just that I have seen comments like ''no'' ''yes'' etc, which aren't even valuable information but are only posted so that the post count can be increased

Oh I see, yes to that I agree, that's annoying.

the post bumping a download link from software whose version expired 4 years ago and the OP of the thread has since been banned, and multiple people have commented how the software was no good and might have malware:

"can I get a new download link?"

sometime old thread has valuable information that u can use until today, so i see thats a good thing

yep , no one should be able to make a thread unless he has 100 posts.
and no one should be able to post unless he has 10 posts

I think there is already a system that bans people trying to up their post counts with short words, be it on old or new threads. However, old threads could still be relevant in some cases to require new attention.

Well as i have seen, if there are things that require attention , there are always gonna be new threads. For example, for dogecoin there are 3 threads i think that were created in the week. but threads like http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackhat-seo/white-hat-seo/404556-1k-visitors-per-day-no-money.html , i mean, I bet the OP managed to monetize his/her 1k visitors he/she had And i doubt there would be any further advice he would get after 2 years he created his thread. Its not only about short answers, its about posts that are just ''thanks'' , ''no'' , ''nice share'' , just ''good luck'' in a journey, etc and replies that are made after a certain time has passed, like the one i linked

OP, you see those 3 or 4 links at the bottom of this thread (under Similar Threads)? One is from '09, one from '10... some users read those URLs, get attracted to the content, read them, get engrossed, and comment on them by losing the track of time...

Many times this happens, not just to newbies which is obvious, but even to the oldtimers, esp. when they see a familiar username... it happens! Simply ignore them, or write a comment saying that a dead thread is brought to life, may be needlessly. It will let others know that the piece is not junk but a possible treasure from the past!

Come on, it's a real huge forum site, so such small things do happen on such large sites, you see!
