Not sure if this info will help you but the things that ranked some of my websites that get around 1m visitors a month have almost no backlinks, were links that actually bringed traffic, so i had conections with youtubers in that niche most of popular ones made clips about my website that actually has niche keyword only in it, i grew few instagram profiles and advertised it there, in a 10 days or so i was already ranked first for main keyword and by just changing title i could rank for several other main keywords with 100k to 1m searches a month...
