New to BHW and SEO? This is for you!!

I´ve been seeing many threads opened by newcomers lately following the same pattern.

I even got a PM a couple of days ago from a guy saying he´s been following my posts and it´s "eager to learn SEO" and asking for advice.

That motivated me into writing this guide which, is nothing by a summary of my own personal view and experience gathered for the past couple of years in the amazing and never-ending surprising world of Digital Marketing and, especially, SEO.

So, bear in mind, I am by no means an "expert" or a "guru" (fuck, I hate that word) so this shouldn´t be taken as expert advice.

Before you dive into any "guru" or "expert" level SEO content, I strongly advise you to start crawling before you start learning how to walk. After that, you can focus on walking and then running (Expert level).

First, start with the basics and fundamentals of SEO, in regards to...

• How the internet and search engine work
• Basic HTML, CSS and JS
• Basic Web design (UX and UI)
• Crawling and indexing
• SERP

This will give you a good foundation about how to tackle SEO. It might not make sense to you now but, trust me, it will later on and everything will make sense.

After this, try and NOT make the same mistakes I did and many others do when learning SEO.

What is that?

YOU CAN´T TACKLE SEO AS A WHOLE!!

At least NOT as a beginner.

SEO it´s a mutherf*****g beast and, if you try to learn it as a whole, it will eat you alive!!

Instead, break it down into more manageable and smaller pieces or areas and heavily focus on each of them separately.

But, remember something and keep this in mind at all time...THEY ARE ALL LINKED TOGETHER!!

They are all just part of the same beast! You´re just eating it one piece at the time.

This is how I would brake down SEO:

• Technical SEO
• On-Page SEO
• Keyword Research
• Content Optimization
• Backlink Profile Analysis
• Competitor Analysis
• Off-Page SEO (Linkbuilding)

I might leave some stuff out and there might be others that will disagree with me but I truly believe this is a pretty exhaustive roadmap of what you need to tackle in order to EAT THAT MOTHERFUCKING BEAST OUT!!

Whenever you´re ready to start learning to "walk", there are plenty of resources from where you can learn basic SEO. Some great places is Udemy. I am going to leave you here a few Udemy Coupon Directories from where you can search, not only FREE videos but coupons you can use to enroll paid courses for free.

Just search for SEO and enroll in as many courses as you can label for "beginners", "A to Z", "from zero to hero", etc., and WATCH THEM ALL!

Not just settle for one basic course. Something I found out to be extremely helpful is to watch 4-5 videos from the same topic, this will help with my critical analysis and better determine what makes more sense and what is BS.

YouTube is also a gold mine when it comes to tutorials and courses.

Yeah, yeah I know it´s filled with fake gurus and affiliate marketers that just care about commissions and all that.

Don´t worry, I am going to give you my own personal list of favorites SEO resources.

Ahrefs - One of my favorite SEO resources on the web. The value you will find here it´s just amazing. Also, make sure to check their blog and their course (Forgot they upload it to their YouTube Channel for FREE)
GotchSEO - This is also one of my favorite SEO resources. Nathan, it´s just amazing of explaining everything without much fuss and BS, he´s LEGIT!! Also, make sure to check his blog and his course (Gotch Academy)
backlinko - He has some of the best guides on keyword research and on-page SEO. Also, if you want to learn how to structure and write a blog post, take a very close look at how he does and THAT´S how you MUST do it!! (He also has a couple of courses, make sure to look for them as well).
Income School - I know these guys get a lot of heat but the vast majority of their advice as pretty solid. They have a course or a program (Project 24) that is very popular where they teach people how to grow a blog and turn it into your full-time income in 24 months or less. Personally, I don´t think you have to wait that long but, if you can get your hand on that course as well, just pay attention to their core SEO advice.

Another course I highly recommend is Glen Allsopp - SEO Detailed Blueprint.

This is a young SEO genius!!

His content is a bit towards the advance side and difficult to digest. I have to watch his modules more than once to get the idea

Other resources I can recommend when it comes to Technical SEO, Search Engines, Analytics, Metrics, and all that other crap ...

Chase Reiner SEO - He can come up like a douche sometimes but he has some very in-depth "over the shoulder" videos on how to perform technical audits.

One last advice I am going to give you (for now, ) is to ABUSE the advance search feature here.

This is how I do it...

Head over to the top right corner and click on the search tab...

Then hit the ESC key on your keyboard and click on MORE...

On the next window, click the "Search Threads and Posts" tab...

Why? Because that tab offers better options to filter down our search.

While in there, this is what you will see...
I generally use it like this...

• Keyword - Here is where you write what topic you´re searching for.
• Search Titles Only - Make sure to tick this box to the search will only browse threads titles.
• Minimum number of replies - I like to play a lot with this feature to narrow down threads and weed out the ones that just suck. You will know which one they are because nobody ever posts comments in those. But, there are a few that have very little post counts that are very content-rich. I like to start at 50 post minimum and work my way down.
• Search In Forums - I like to set this for BlackHatWorld subforum. Why? Because this way you filter out threads from the marketplace. Bear in mind, do this whenever you´re searching for topics to learn from but, if you´re looking for stuff to download, make sure to check this for the "Members Download" subforum.
• Most Recent - I think this is very self-explanatory. It organizes all results from the most recent ones to the oldest.
• Display Results as Threads - This is also a very important box you want to tick. Otherwise, you will get duplicate results from the same thread.

Here´s an example of how I would get if I ren a search for "Keyword research" related topics...
Another way I like to run searches on BHW is to use common prefixes people use when posting awesome content. Some prefixes you can use that will show you great and amazing content are...

• [METHOD]
• [GUIDE]
• [AKA]
• [ASK ME ANYTHING]
• [GET]
• [JOURNEY]
• [GET]
• [CASE STUDY]

I am sure there are others but these are by far the most common and popular ones.

Lastly, I will also share with you my own personal selection of threads I´ve had bookmarked from here. Some might be outdated as I haven´t checked these in a while...

seems like we were on the same roll last year, especially in IM Case. I did already had almost all of those youtube channels and Most of those blogs on my bookmarks , all those came under my radar in 2019
