Being "corporate slaves" or not is your choice, not your education choice. Why? Because the culture of most people in the world are as follows : "born - go to school - work in big companies - die".
Just take a look at Singapore, the #2 in the world. Do they learn much about entrepreneurship and self-experiment? They don't. Most of Asian education in advanced countries such as in Japan, South Korea, and China are based on rote and memorizing the steps to solve a particular problem, not on understanding the problem and formulate a solution. In fact, Western based education (at least during my time) leans more on self-experiment and self-thought.
In Western style education ( I experienced this on Australia, but I don't know in US) we can freely choose our own class. You don't want to study Advanced Math? Fine, you can go study other class. In Asian countries, you must study ALL of them. You don't like math? Too bad, here's Advanced Math class for you.
This goes without mention that American universities, expensive they may be, are churning out great quality people. Yes, they may be "corporate slaves". But will your Internet works without these slaves? Electricity? Running water? Food? Accept it, not all people can be an entrepreneur. The reason that the Americans are "ruling" the world as we speak now, is their education system, added with the will of the American people.
Are Americans stupid?
America is the first country to send the people to the moon.
America is the country who have most inventions and patents.
America is the country who writes most research papers in the world.
America is the leading country in military, biochemistry, and Internet technology.
Yes, education system should be improved, but don't blame your government for "wanting to produce slaves for corporations". In fact, most of the people CHOSE to be a slave themselves, to keep themselves safe, "happy", and well-fed. Only a few chose the risky path of entrepreneurship.
