Upwork Scam?

I applied for a job on Upwork and received the following message: "Hello,

I hope you are doing well.

This project is time-sensitive, and the document below contains instructions that you will be using to apply for this position, so I need to access it. Thank you!"

The PDF file attached included some information about the company and the way you apply is download the app, put the code in, and go from there. Are they just trying to make money from making you download? :rolleyes:

I mean ah we do blackhat here also, so if it was just a download um?
 
If they don't open a milestone and just expect you to download the app and use then they just want to waste your time.
 
There's so many scams going on on these apps.

For example, last time I got this message from someone:

Hello Dear
I can not disclose more information about the project before entering the Deal. You’ll just need to keep a $1 Refundable Deposit. It’s just for verification that you’re an individual, not a Company.
Also you must sign a NDA

Which is obviously just another way of stealing your CC info.

Get a million people to pay the $1 and you got yourself a Million my friend.

Then you can buy an island and all thr things you want :D

If anyone wants to send me $1 dollar, Non-refundable, ill take it. Thank youuu :D

They're probably just trying to get you off Upwork then scam you or just avoid Upwork fees.


What was their profile like there? How long have they been on there, are they verified and how much have they spent?

My Mrs recently applied for a content job with a company who looked a little weird in their interview process, they wanted a test article ( paid ) doing and promsed a quick reply as a follow up. A week later they offered her the work but for 300k words not the original 100k words. They've spent over a million on there so they're fine.
 
There are many kinds of job posting like that on other websites as well. That's not because of Upwork. That's from the Upwork users who want to get more clicks, traffics, downloads to their websites. You can just apply, get response in order to improve your response rate on Upwork, no need to care about the getting paid from these people. What I mean is: when you receive these messages, just say "thanks" then ignore. :D :D :D
 
Yeah, that's an issue with Upwork. So, the rule of thumb is any job that looks easy to get money, they are all scammers. :D
 
There are many people ask for free plan, free works, free stuff as well. So, stay alert. :)
