I don't believe in duplicate content penalties. Thats just another Google fear tactic. My main sites are in the 80% unique range anyway and My scraper sites are thriving with 99% dupe content. This is just another Google fear tactic.

Let me explain why there cant possibly be a duplicate content "penalty". Think about retail sites that sell the same products with the same exact descriptions. Best Buy for example. probably 80% duplicate content (just a guess). If they put a penalty in the algorithm how would any retail site rank well? There are other factors that come into play. Its called a footprint.

If there are legit sites out there with the same footprint, they can not hardcode a penalty into the algorithm. Period. And don't try to feed me some panda update bullshit because nowadays scraper sites are outranking the original authors of the same content. Trust me I know. Or take googles word for it and remain paralyzed with fear. More money for me.

Dont just take my word for it.

Not talking about that, talking about duplicate content within one site. Scraping and outranking others is still easy, but people are getting fucked with tag pages, search results, sorting and all that if they let it get indexed.

I guess you didn't read my qoute from Matt Cutts on that exact issue. He goes on to say don't worry about having 2 or 3 copies of the same article throughout your website. G will NOT penalize you.

I'm talking about search results, tag pages, archives. You don't want to get 35 different keywords for a post and have it generate and link to 35 new tag pages that are all nothing but a link to that one post, or maybe a few others. That's when G decides your site is made up of all thin content. Just noindex that shit.

This is just a myth. All of my testing shows otherwise.


This plug-in is very powerful. It can have huge positive and negative effects. (Tip: Understand why and how it works. Then implement it to your ongoing SEO for long-tails, and you'll see a massive growth in traffic)

That's exactly what I want. I would also like to retract all of my earlier statements. I made it all up. I don't have close to 50,000 pages of duplicate content indexed, ranked and earning. We should all be very afraid. Your smart to be in fear of Google. I'm sure you have come to your conclusions based on some solid evidence including using the exact same methods on hundreds of sites with clear evidence of said results across the board. Tell you what, you cower over there in the corner. Ima go get this money.

If that's how you wanna do it, shit, go ahead. If you'd rather have a new duplicate page indexed for every long tail keyword you already rank for do it. I'd rather just point new links to the pages that already rank.

You should read my last post on the favorite cartoon thread. Its really cool. What you say makes no sense to me and really has nothing to do with what is actually happening. Anyway Im in no mood to argue. To each his own, you are as entitled to your opinion as I am mine. Now go check out that toon thread.

Thanks for the updates. keep em coming. I really want to keep an eye on this one.

The sites I had it on had posts around one keyword, it felt too spammy to me so i banned that keyword and now just show 10 related terms. Feels safer and rankings are fine. I've saved all the extra words which i will add to the content and/or make into anchor text backlinks at some point. My pages are all highly optimzed for one keyword so this plugin will just ruin that without banning the KW.

yeah that makes sense. I have such a broad range of terms that I come up for, this hasn't been an issue for me yet. Its nice that you can tune the output a little bit though. There are actually a couple typos coming up on mine that I should ban. Hadn't thought about that before. Thanks.

I was advised to remove it too...

After doing so, my traffic and rankings plunged!!!

I restored it and everything came back to normal...

I just red some of the other comments on the page.

This plugin does wonders for me. I also have it set to 100 links.
You did just point out the search page to me, I didn't even know it was there... ;-)

If you are using STT2 on your site, make sure you monitor its performance from time to time. It's a good thing to deactivate the plugin if you discover that you already have sufficient number of pages indexed. This is better than having your whole pages de-indexed after it is discovered that your have been generating urls with keywords to increase your search ranking.

That's crazy, I have this plugin on all of my wordpress sites and just love it, it captures all the long tail traffic and moves up the site in search engines for it. I use the same settings, 100 keywords and all 3 tabs in widgets. Haven't had any keyword stuffing issues with it, nor have I played with the amount of displayed terms, would be curious to see what the results are but don't really feel like getting an 80% drop in traffic,

Not sure if that was aimed at me but
I would love to say this plugin moved me onto first page for my main keyword(it is on bing and yahoo for what thats worth)
not sure about other keywords as the site pulls in 8000+ uvs a month so I am not tracking them.
maybe because I am only using 12 search terms rather than 100 (seems a lot to me)
also not using 3tabs in widgets just adding at the end of the page
