I was really wondering if you guys here studied in a college or university ? or you're just doing this - making money online - without a higher education . And if you have studied in a college/university what did you study ? and how did you manage to work on IM when studying ( if you did work on IM while studying) ?

I wanted to share that I've finished my first year at the university . I study Computer Science & Business Management . I've got about 2.5 years left .
I am not full time IM . I'm not making that much money on IM or Internet Blogging and other ways of making money , but I am working offline at a part-time job, and to be honest I'm finding it hard to be focused in each one of these fields - studying/working offline/working online ..

I'm interested to hear about you guys if you mind sharing :)

I'm a university student in the UK, and studying Law & Human Resource Management.

My part-time job is my internet marketing that I do via my company. I live rather comfortably thanks to the business, if I had the 40 hours per week to dedicate to it, probably would earn a constant four figure sum each month, now it fluctuates between high threes and low fours.

It just takes a bit of motivation. I still party like hell, study like the lazy idiot I am and hit the gym four five times per week. Add a girlfriend to that and you're lucky to sleep six hours a night (I still sleep like 12 if I feel like it) and you work while hungover (I really don't).

So it can be fun, and I've managed to work it out so that it actually benefits me in many ways. Still hungover though, some lovely jackass thought it would be awesome to get piss drunk on Monday, forgetting we had a law tutorial this morning. 'Twas great fun.

But what I'm trying to say, is that if you manage your schedule well enough, don't promise your clients to deliver anything too quickly and actually do at least work an hour per day on IM (BHW browsing doesn't count!), then it's perfectly doable.
 
Thanks for sharing . Yea definitely adding a GF to the equation will cut off some sleep hours .
I believe also if I can invest time Online I can make much more, the problem is that the offline job is not that bad , and if I continue there I'll be having more money per hour . That's why I'm not letting go of it , also it is sometimes the fuel of my online projects as you'll need some money for them . also the second year is much harder than the first .. I have a few courses that are a basic demand for working in big high-tech companies if I intend to go there ..

I understand, and keep the focus on university. That is your 9 to 5 job now, and that's that. The part-time job is the one you have to share your IM time with, and I also understand that it's hard to let go of the secure income source.

Try building yourself an MNS or two, and see if you can get them to making money. It's not expensive and can be a good sustainable income if done right. There are plenty of sellers on BHW who also sell hands on micro niche sites. There are ways, you just have to find them. I started out with MNS ventures myself, and I think this turned out pretty well. I mean, I'm still a sarcastic c*nt from time to time, but at least I'm making money! (j/k)

But mate, that's the best part of it! The shopping and whatnot is what's interfering with your IM ;)
 
Studying in University while doing IM full time (I actually don't really study just taking the exams and pass them to get the degree).
 
Went to a University for a year, they tossed me out as I was too immature... they said something about not attending classes and putting beer on my cereal in the morning were not positive signs.

I have since stopped putting beer on my cereal in the AM.

Still disagreeing with you saying he needs a full-time job while at Uni.

You can socialize in so many other ways as well. And if you're really good at what you do, you'll probably run your own office. Besides, if you're really that desperate and can't socialize without work, then just buy yourself a nice escort.

That's brilliant mate! I mean, the part with the beer and the cereal. Jack Daniels and bacon is pretty good as well.
 
I just graduated (B.tech) this year.
I am an Engineer + I do full time IM from first year.
And honestly if I was not doing IM, I could've failed.
Day time - Studies
Night - IM :)
4-5 hours sleep a day.
Also BHW lounge was helpful to recharge my mind :D
 
Went to university for 2.5 years and finally understand it was not for me :D
 
the degree itself is pretty much useless in this day and age...but unfortunately it's still a requirement

think of it as a safety net...without a degree you are pretty much screwed

that said, use it to your advantage. Getting a degree is 4 years where you can use loans to pay for school/housing. That means, you have 4 years to come up with a business that can be slow to grow, that by the end of year 4 will pay you more than any job you might get.

The 15-20 hours you spend a week on school is nothing, use the rest of the free time to your advantage.
 
I used to study for a B.Sc. in Biophysics, wanted to go for a M.D. or Ph.D. M.D. afterwards. Sadly I had to quit that after I got sick, and now I'm looking into doing IM to pay medical bills. I can really tell you, education is never time wasted, as long as that education is in science, medicine or engineering. Really, forget business school, become an engineer instead. It's more varied/fun (subjective I guess), extremely resistant to job loss, high paying and you are really contributing something to society. I don't know a single engineer that has ever gone jobless for long. Scientists can go jobless a while if they are something silly like sociologists or something, go for physics or math and you are set with a 100k$ salary for life. Some day I hope to get back to that.
 
the thing everyone need to understand is studies is never to be done in order to get a piece of paper or to make you rich and place you in high position somewhere.

studying something is showing your interest in something which you love or going to remember for ever.

if you study engineering or science just because you want that $100k/month salary belief me you will never go too far and just stuck in one position somewhere which make you comfortable.

that's the reason many people keep changing there profession's because they never know in the first place what they want to do in life.

Everyone is different in some ways. Not everyone wants to buy a bmw or a lexus or a jaguar, etc. (Everyone has their own top 5 or top 10)
Not everyone likes the same type of food, the same type of music or the same types of girls/romantic interest.
You have to find out for yourself what will give the most happiness/peace of mind (or any other emotion you value more such as adventure/excitement/love/etc)

For me, I value freedom more than anything, so I am not interested in a 9-5 job.

Got a software engineering degree and some experience under my belt. I still juggle between IM and my corporate job. One is stable but the other one is more fun and I'm becoming more and more dedicated to IM :)

I really like IM and browsing BHW all day , but at the end of the day I put my mind on studying and finishing my studies , because if things didn't go too well , I'll have the degree in my pocket .. I know its not the best thought as some might say that I won't like what I will do then . But its okay , sometimes if life gets tough you gotta do things you don't like just to keep living :)
