Recently I read a lot in the newspaper about UBI (Universal Basic Income).
There have already been some countries that have implemented and started pilot projects, such as Finland, Germany, Canada, etc.

Some Opinions:

There are even Crypto UBI programs:

German programs:

What is your opinion on this? Do you think that automation will take away most jobs?

Sure, Black Hat SEO will be around for a long time - but what about all the other people?

They're not going to need 7 billion people roaming this planet when they don't need us for labor. With AI automation they're going to have to rid most of the population. The question is how will they do this.. war? food shortages? food tainting? synthetic virion? Vaccines with chemicals to cause DNA sequencing errors? vaccines to inhibit p53 proteins? or all of the above + more?

Not everything is going to be replaced by automation, and the labor force is not even close to 7 billion strong.

I don't know how I feel about it. I mean apparently they already do this in alaska... and it helps people. But I'm not sure I trust Andrew Yang. There are native indians living in America on reservations, they get money, they also have devastating rates of alcohol & drug abuse. What would Yang say about that? Does giving people money make them more likely to sit around & get drunk or high? Throw their lives away? I don't know.

I do know the welfare system is exploited. Like "welfare queens" we'll likely wind up with "UBI queens". It would probably divide the population even worse. Creating huge pockets of poor people collecting UBI, having babies they can't afford just so the babies can collect UBI. I can only see that enlarging & expanding ghettos throughout America.

My problem with free money is that free money doesn't fix a lot of problems. It would be 1000xs smarter & more productive to give large amounts of FREE b-vitamins to the population. The expensive, highly absorbed kinds. Benfotiamine, active B2, large amounts of niacin, p5p, methyl folate or folinic acid, hydroxo B-12... give people the great vitamins for free. Then most people would feel so good they'd stop stressing the apocalypse and start businesses.

Free money doesn't solve shit on a long term. Never has, never will.

I did think like this last week, but this week I changed my mind a bit, after thinking that its maybe a better method to stimulate an economy, ie give it to the users, instead of the developers, or the ceos, like it has been going to with the hope of tricking down, but large profit taking stops this from happening, so maybe it is better money spent by the government, since it wont be saved, it will be spent to stimulate the economy.

Some people call it socialism, but its just changing where the government debt goes too, so it capitalism upside

We are all fucked anyway once the debt crisis finally arrives.

No gov on this planet has figured a way out of the oncoming crisis.

Be rich or die soon. Ain't nobody who is owed money will agree to a reset on capitalism.

In America they have socialism for rich, capitalism for poor.

Man, this is so true.
Communism only works in theory.

Future is capitalism+ some social benefits + lower population.

Globalization has reduced nationalism already, to be honest future looks bright.

Population decrease is becoming a crisis in it self though. Basically if you were born in 2000+, your fucked.

My comment went over your head I guess.

Probably, it's 1am..

Well, Canada basically has a pilot version thanks to COVID.

Let me tell you, a shit home is like $500k USD. Like absolute basic.

You're paying about $5 million for a mansion that would cost you $1.5 million in Florida.

I live in a small town with 300 dwellings. Lots are $300k plus. Any lot with a view is $800-900k.

This all trickles down to renters in the low income bracket. I manage a bunch of rental properties and they are absolute dumps (no yard, built in 1930 and 40s, everything is lopsided, rotten floors) but I still rent them out for over $1000 a month.

It has inflated everything but it looks like the COVID stimulus will end in Sept and houses prices are expected to drop in excess of 20%, bringing them back to normal levels.

Milton Friedman is a conservative/libertarian economist who advised Reagan and Thatcher.

He was a strong believer in an unrestrained freemarket economy.

Yet he was an advocate of a basic level of universal income through Negative Income Tax policy.

People below the basic level would receive income (negative taxation) until they reach the basic income. People who earned above the basic level of income would pay taxes proportionally based on their income level.

So the idea of a basic universal income is not automatically a socialist/communist idea. It is rather another way to manage taxation, poverty and economic stability.

It really depends on how it is implemented.

Inflation will ensure that everyone ends up where they were

But... the incentive to improve one's self might be damaged for good if UBI becomes a reality

But didn't he position his proposal as a replacement to ALL OTHER welfare spending?

What you need is to make a $1 billion dollars so then your income based off interest is the size of the universe. Forget about UBI.
