Hey guys,

I'm working on a new project which revolves largely around search, and before I kick off producing content, I wanted to get a second opinion.

In my experience, spun content never actually got pushed as far up the rankings as clean unique content did. I always felt there was some kind of footprint left when using spun content, because words still matched to some extant, while unique content didn't match at all by word, but did by meaning.

What's your opinion?

There is rarely any content that is truly unique. Most content that is claimed to be unique by the search engines is just a compilation of various materials.

Spun content was first introduce decades ago by encyclopedias. Think about it.....

I prefer mixed content from multiple sources compared to spun content. Spun content is unreadable compared to mixed content. Mixed content also can get higher ranking in search engine. But of course the best one is original content.

It depends what you mean by spun content. If you take an existing article and automatically spin it or run it through a language translator you'll end up with unreadable garbage. Now point enough links at it and it'll probably still rank but what good is it if it's unreadable?

If however you write the article yourself (or outsource it) and it's a quality article and you then manually spin it by sentence maybe three times and then do a little intelligent replacing of synonyms add random line breaks and highlighting then I believe it can be placed on many different properties and they'll all rank well and get good click throughs (assuming you backlink them).

Some spun stuff for autoblogs is OK I guess but I don't do it much myself. I'm sure others will disagree though.

You can have low quality or high quality as with everything. If you do a good job at spinning the content so it is perfectly readable and makes sense, then go ahead and use it. Of course, keep in mind that there's a limit to how much u can spin it and still maintain a good uniqueness across all resulted articles. If you just replace words, a lot of the N-grams will repeat so that's not too great. Instead, focus on making a huge seed article so you can get many spins out of it. Write 3-5 equivalent paragraphs for each paragraph, then for each sentence write 2-3 equivalent sentences, then do the word synonyms. That is a lot of work but will give you a ton of pretty unique articles and from my experience is the only way worth doing it.

The number of articles you can get while maintaining a given uniqueness does not grow linearly with the complexity of the seed article, but in a more efficient way. For example, if a 1000 words seed gives you 100 good spins, a 10000 (10*1000) words seed may give you a lot more than 1000 (10*100) spins. If you also change the order of the paragraphs and/or sentences, heavily spin the title and subtitles and make heavy use of optional sentences and words within paragraphs, you've got yourself the recipe for success.

I do it like this and have articles that are actually useful to a reader not just pretty unique. That means they could easily pass a human inspection.

Manual, spun content and mashups, all have their place in SEO. You just need to understand the characteristics of each and put the time into them to do it right.

I've not seen a huge penalty from duplicate content. You can usually rank the article over the original on the article directories with just a handful of links.

Alright this has been a blackhat issue on my mind. There are so many article spinners out there, but my only worry about them has been that from what Ive seen there are so many grammatical errors in this spun articles. Manually spinning articles seems to take more time than i would like to invest. Have there been any programs that spin articles to a high degree of accuracy?? Also if i decide not to spin the article, will my website have lower ratings??

Depends on how "special" you want to make your blog. If your just going to sell it quick then by all means spin it to win it. However, if your going to keep it for a long time even if your outsourcing the articles then I would focus more on quality. The search engines are moving in that direction anyway.

IMO authority, pagerank and trust rank outweighs all sort of duplicates.

A site with high PR, trust rating even though have thousands of copied content will rank higher for a minisite with a 5 page original content at any day

If you got the time then original content is always better. Even if you don't have much time then take a spun article and make sure it's readable.

Duplicate content penalty was made up by the developers of article spinning software.

Beg your pardon ?
Duplicate content will only penalize your site if you have a DC within 2 or more pages on your site .
Means if yoursite.com/a = yoursite.com/b ( same content ) u will be penalized
yoursite.com = othersite.com ( same content) you won't get penalized

You can still get high quality from spun articles. It depends on how you spin them. These tips may be of use to you:

1. If you are using word synonyms, do not try to derive 10,000 spun articles from one original article. Use less spun words that would give you few spun articles. This gives better spun articles of high quality. Almost every word in English language has a synonym but not all synonyms fit into every situation.

2. Use sentence synonyms first and then spin the words in each variation a little bit. Sentence synonyms give better meaning than only using word synonyms.

I classify my sites into three. For the first class, I use spun articles to build a lot of websites. I even created several blogger blogs with them and use them as link boosters for my second class of sites. I use these sites for all sorts of spamming in order to make them rank higher in the search engines even though they contain content that may not be too readable to humans. I dont even care if the blogs would get deleted or not.

The second class of sites are those on which I have content I scraped from other areas. I the use the spun articles sites as link support for these second class sites. Doing a good job with this, one could build hundreds of links to them.

The third class of sites I use are those contaning content I created myself or outsourced. I carefully care for these sites and build links to them from the second class sites and other external sites. I manually comment on other sites using these third class of sites.

From my experience, all sites come up in the search engines. Even the ones containing duplicate content rank very high than the ones with unique content. You can still go for quality content but you need to mix things up because those sites you never thought could be visible in Google could be the ones bringing you the cash.

I think if you are going to pick one, then you should go with unique.

Spun content usually doesn't even sound right, and so the users won't read the content, which will lower the time spent on your site, which actually from my own testing has resulted in a lower rank.

The sites which have a longer time spent tend to rank higher than sites that average about 10 seconds per visitor.

Unique over spunned wins, always. But again I have seen autoblogs rank top spots for most low competition keywords.

If it's spuned well it ranks the same as unique in my experience, just make sure that the spun makes complete sense to humans reading it and that enough words are spun n you should be good

If you are just looking to earn with adsense, go with spun content and just make sure you split the spun articles by using h1,h2 and h3 tags and also use an image with your keyword as the image alt text and use a youtube video... that will be unique CONTENT.. combination of text+image+video with high ON Page optimization... you can rank such pages with minimum effort

Spun Articles Simply Sucks, go for unique content it gets the job done Period!
