I know that this is pretty much 'SEO 101', but I'm seeing a big influx of new comers on BHW lately, so I'd like to share this in hopes of it helping anyone in their online ventures:

Whether it's a client site or your own, make sure you do not have any duplicated content on any of your pages. I just got a new client to do some local SEO for (Locksmith company). I noticed their web guy just put the same content on every page and replaced the city name. For example, the "Locksmith_city name" and "Locksmith_other_city_name" had the exact same writing, except with the city name changed within the content. There were about 18 pages like this. The first thing I did was change up that content with 18 unique pages.

I decided to wait about 2 weeks for it to crawl the site before I started link building.

Within a week, the pages were crawled, and the site went from not in the top 200 to #54 by just fixing up the content.

That is just one example.

So if you're new to SEO, or just new to website development: It's definitely worth the time, money, and effort to not have content on your website that was copied from somewhere else on the web, or even just duplicated within 2 or more pages in the website itself.

To add on to this: If you're using WordPress, make sure you're taking out duplicate content from your archive pages and your category pages. WordPress's default settings creates a lot of duplicate content on these pages. You can easily remove the duplicate content using an SEO plugin like All-in-One-SEO.

One easy way to check if your content is duplicate is to use CopyScape. CopyScape will scan the web for similar copies of your site and report back to you for duplicates.

"I noticed their web guy" So sick of these fake web guys who don't know what their doing...

Content is always king. 100% unique contents can also affect your site if they are spun and not readable. So be careful about this matter too.

Can't really blame them. Web developers aren't SEO experts. SEO is a field of its own.

I heard the same method before - u know if you're active in BHW.
Just replace the name of the city e.g. Holidays in Hawaii to Holidays in Caribean. It was proved and it works :)
