Understanding backlinks

Hiya still reading and learning but want to cheek I've got this right.
I've found a key word with a difficulty under 45 on kwfinder and when I cheek the top 10 pages they have less than 10 back links and only about 30% of them are do follow. But 3 of the top ones are major sites, for example say my keyword was pregnancy pillows the pages that show in the top 10 have very low backlinks but the top 3 are Walmart Macy's and best buy (not the actual product or sites but an example to show what I mean). Now im thinking that although the links ect their pages selling my keyword item are low, due to the sheer amount of links and authority the rest of there site has it will be near on impossible for me to out rank the keyword page. Is that correct or would that page be beatable due to the low links ect even tho the rest of there site has hundreds of thousands of links

Personally I don't worry about keywords or any of that, we're in 2019 the most important thing you should be focusing on is your domain authority. If your domain authority is higher than your competitors you'll naturally outrank them for your keywords. That's how a large authority site can publish a blog or article with no backlinks and rank on the first page. Are the first 3 an exact match for your keyword phrase?

Yes it's an exact match for the keyword on the top 3 all big sites with domain authority over 45 top 2 are over 70 but the pages have minimal links and page authority between 30/60 but the search volume is 80k a month and there's another keyword that fits very closely with the original keyword but is a different product and that's the same with top 3 being big names but the page having little links and that's 70k searches a month so it's very tempting if the keywords are not too hard to rank
