[TUT] Make Amazon Sites That Convert

Hey LBrown,

Great Tut - thanks and +rep given.

Got a question concerning the Sales price plugin you mentioned and linked in the OP. Is it fast or would it bog down a page if I had 18 or more Amazon products listed? I'd really like to have it update the prices on my page and certainly won't hesitate to pay $10 for that - I just don't want the page rendering to be delayed while it fetches the prices for the products.

Would love to hear your experience with it.

Thanks

No it doesn't slow it down because you can cache the results. The plugin maker only lets you cache it for as long as Amazon does so that you are still in line with Amazon's policy for updating prices.

Is there any advantage of doing it by hand instead of using the Ads plugin?

Yes, the adsplugin doesn't always pull the most relevant results for obscure keywords. Also by doing it youself you can design the ad to make sure it would appeal to a broader user base.

One of the most difficult things for affiliates to do is to set up sites that convert. There are three ways I do this with Amazon.

First, my concept is based on the idea that you want the average visitor to think that your site is a store. I've adopted this from the old X-Factor sites and a http://zenduck.me/. There are three ways that I accomplish this on my sites:

1) The free way

Go to Amazon and find the best page for your product.

For my sample, my keyword is "ruby rings" so I'm choosing http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=sr_nr_scat_3367581_ln?rh=n%3A3367581%2Ck%3Aruby+rings&keywords=ruby+rings&ie=UTF8&qid=1336489939&scn=3367581&h=5b4f849b8b15cbadc769cd9e456e556f93675251

Find a row that you think is the best representation of the keyword. Take a screenshot. If you have a lot to do you can do this quickly with http://kwout.com/

Edit out the price and review stars as per Amazon's guidelines. The simplest way to do that is to just take the top line of the description but you could also blur out the price.

Make a call to action to put right below the image. It can say anything to entice users to click. For this demo I'll put See More Ruby Rings in case they don't like one of the ones displayed. I used http://www.buttongenerator.com to do mine but you can do it however you like.

Link both of these images to that Amazon URL that was the best page for your keyword.

Code:
<center><a rel="nofollow" href="[URL="http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=sr_nr_scat_3367581_ln?rh=n%3A3367581%2Ck%3Aruby+rings&keywords=ruby+rings&ie=UTF8&qid=1336489939&scn=3367581&h=5b4f849b8b15cbadc769cd9e456e556f93675251"]http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=sr_nr_scat_3367581_ln?rh=n%3A3367581%2Ck%3Aruby+rings&tag=YOURAFFID-20&keywords=ruby+rings&ie=UTF8&qid=1336489939&scn=3367581&h=5b4f849b8b15cbadc769cd9e456e556f93675251[/URL]"><img src="[URL]http://i.imgur.com/mHEsW.png[/URL]" /><br><img src="http://i.imgur.com/gKgZr.png" /></a></center>

2) The automated way

For automation on my autoblogs and some of my article directories I use the plugin from http://adsplugin.net/. You can customize the layout with this plugin but it pulls the items from Amazon automatically by keyword and node. This is good because it will never show an item that Amazon no longer carries but not so good if your keyword is a little more obscure since it might not display the best products.

Here is what it pulled for ruby rings with my customization on one of my sites and the call to action button:

3) The custom way

For most of my sites I use http://crazygoodtools.com/ and this http://www.luckydragonstudio.com/wp-amazon-price/ to do the same thing as the two methods above except I get to choose each product and customize each layout if I want. Their price plugin doesn't work well which is why I use the other price plugin to do the same thing.

This is what that tool came up with when using one of my layouts and the call to action button:

IMPORTANT:

This whole layout goes above the content for the best conversions. I know there is a lot of talk about above the fold ads getting hit. You can put it lower down on the page but you won't see nearly the same conversions. I put it at the top then have long articles about the keywords below it. I don't do review sites so the links in this Amazon display are usually the ONLY affiliate links on my sites.

thanks! i give it a try..

Hi ,

I am planing to do this with method #1, and creating as much blogs I can for niche products, and rank them.
I was wondering if it was allowed by Amazon to create several blogs like that to promote their products, or if I had to make a redirection when people click on my links (blog > legit site > amazon) to stay safe ?

thanks for your help.

Hey LBrown, I'm wondering do you like to cloak your amazon links on the sites? Like, when they scroll their mouse over the image or the Buy Now! button, would you rather have it popup in the bottom corner as amazon or yoursite? Thank you : ))

Amazon doesn't care how many sites you have.

Does the ads plug-in slow down the page a lot? I tried WPzonbuilder and it made my page unbearably slow. I am kind of hesitant to use things like that anymore.

Thanks!

I haven't found it to be unbearable slow but I'm not super picky about page speed unless there seems to be a problem with the site ranking. The sites I use adsplugin on don't have a problem ranking.

It depends on the keyword. If the keyword is tough SEO-wise I cloak. If it is an easy keyword I don't bother. I like Brad's CPA redirector when I cloak.

Shopperpress and Azon turn your site into a mini clone of Amazon. That's something completely different than what I do. My goal is to get people onto Amazon ASAP so my cookie is on their computer. Having them browse around my site with the same info that Amazon has on their site doesn't put my cookie on their computer.

Listen up people....that very comment alone...
"My goal is to get people onto Amazon ASAP so my cookie is on their computer...
is what you need to focus on!

Why?

I've seen my fair share of videos regarding Amazon Marketing and I can tell you this...once a cookie has been set...there's a pretty damn good chance you'll see money in your affiliate account NOT from whatever it is you're trying to SELL...but from the OTHER THINGS the end-user/customer will have purchased AFTERWARDS...meaning, if I hit your affiliate site regarding the latest droid tablet and you send me over to Amazon via the method above...the aff-cookie gets set and even if I decide NOT to buy that tablet, but go ahead and buy something else...that's easy money earned without even trying!

Thanks LBrown, this thread has motivated me to restructure a few of my sites to be more focused on Amazon.

Great tutorial thanks

Have some questions,

I saw a mention of "the fold" I've heard this term before what exactly is it?

Any reason why you don't use the widgets that are available from amazon itself?

Can you put a post of auto spun nonsense and get organic traffic from this? If you can I can easily make a 200 page site!

As for a theme I recommend ataluhalpa just found it today, very clean and editable and it's free

Above the fold is what you can see on your computer screen when you first click on a site without having to scroll. It is the top of your website. It's a phrase from an ancient time when people read newspapers and the fold was a literal crease in the paper.

Widgets from Amazon load slowly and are not very customizable.

You need to build backlinks, but yes, autogenerated content done well can rank organically. My autogenerated content is made by a custom bot and is close to perfect grammatically. Putting an article from ezine into The Best Spinner will not yield great results and that is not what I do.

I love atahualpa as well. You can make just about anything with it.

Yes I'm not sure about investing time and money into backlinking content when it's clearly rubbish. It's annoying having to write quality articles which you ideally no one would ever read - we only want them to click the ad! But I guess it has to be done. Do you know if wp robot is good, did you program your own bot for this?

WP-Robot pulls articles from ezines and a few other sources and from rss feeds and spins them or translates them. It allows for a little bit of customization but you'd have to pick some very easy niches and keywords to get good traffic from that kind of autoblog without backlinks. WP-Robot is not what I use to create content but I started with WP-robot when I first started autoblogging then I devised my own system.

Hi LBrown,

When you say you are more aggresive than most with your backlinking, do you have the time for a short description of that method? I'm mainly wondering about this as it seems to be in the opposite direction of what most are advising now.

When you say you use autospun articles, do you use them on the bloggers too? I was thinking of trying your method out with blogger, but not sure how quick they are to ban autospun content.

I don't know of anyone who is serious about SEO who is advising against aggressive backlinking. What I do is not very different than what most people are doing. The biggest differences would be my focus on thousands of low volume keywords instead of a few dozen high volume keywords and I make sure my sites hit a lot of social metrics: twitter, facebook, pinterest, bookmarks, etc.

Yes, I use my generated content with blogger. I haven't had any bans that I know of. I do one blog per account though just in case.
