Who you should follow/reblog totally depends on your niche. Try a Google search to find a high PR Tumblr blog in your niche - follow them and reblog their posts which are related to your own Tumblr blog. For example, search for "cooking tumblr blog" or "food tumblr" or something like that if you're in the cooking niche. Install the SEO Quake add-on for Firefox or Chrome to quickly establish each blog's PR.
Some other tips for growing your Adsense following:
- Follow 50 other blogs in your niche every day to begin with; increase this to 200 per day as your Tumblr blog ages and gains authority/trust (don't do this too soon though otherwise you risk getting a ban - get about 1,000 followers before you up the ante). Make sure you unfollow some people as you go along if you need to 'even out' your follower:following ratio - don't be following a lot more than you have followers (if you catch my drift).
- Like 400 posts from other blogs (shown on your dashboard) every day to begin with; increase this to 800-1,000 as your Tumblr blog ages and gains authority/trust (same reason as above).
- Publish as many posts as you can as frequently as possible (might depend on niche but this is a good tactic for funny pics and adult niches, from experience). I always have the queue charged up to fire out 50 images per day (tinker with the queue settings to do this). People like to follow highly active blogs, so the more frequently you make interesting posts related to your niche, the more followers you will accrue over time. Just be careful that you don't run out of posts in your queue though because this can cause a major lull in traffic!
TIP: Download the Tumblr Queue Poster (search the forum for this) to seriously speed up your ability to queue up images (limit yourself to 300 posts in your queue to avoid
being banned).
- Re-blog from Tumblr blogs in your niche that get a lot of traffic (so that they return the favour). Install Analytics for your Tumblr blog and check out which other Tumblr blogs are sending you a lot of traffic - reblog their posts in an attempt to get even more. There are other ways of determining a website's traffic that can be put to good use here (have a look around the forum).
- Be engaging with your audience. Add the 'Ask' button when customising your blogs and consider also adding the 'Submit' feature so other users can post to your blog. The higher the level of engagement with other Tumblrs, the more likely others will be interested in following you. Remember to check your messages to respond to any relevant questions/queries.
- Consider buying the Tumblr Autobot (do a search on this forum or search google for 'IM Autobots'/'Tumblr autobot'). The tool is a bit clunky and not great at following other but it seriously speeds up your productivity (i.e. liking/following/reblogging) if used to good effect.
- When you get used to all of this, consider setting up new Tumblr blogs under new accounts which are also related to your niche. You can then put your original Tumblr blog's URL in the 'Clickthrough to URL' field when posting from your new blogs - thus diverting the new Tumblr blogs' traffic to the original Tumblr blog.
