Hi everyone,

I’m 28 years old, currently working as a operation support engineer in the oil and gas industry in a third world country (with very low salary + I hate my Job). I’ve been trying to transition into a remote tech career to make money online and would really appreciate your advice.

Over the past two years, I’ve invested a lot of time learning frontend development (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, Next.js). I enjoy coding, but I struggle with retaining complex syntax and logic — I often forget how I built things a few months later, which makes long-term progress frustrating.

Lately, I’ve been considering switching to Data Analytics. It seems more structured and repetitive (which helps with my memory issues), and I already have a strong analytical mindset from engineering. I like that it’s tool-based (Excel, SQL, Power BI, Python) rather than code-heavy.

But I’m still unsure.

My goals are:

  • Work remotely full-time or part-time (ideally for a US-based company).
  • Start earning within 6 months (freelance or contract is fine at first).
  • Eventually make around $2,000–$3,000/month.
  • Have a skill that’s not easily replaceable by AI and allows for long-term career growth.
  • Possibly relocate to the US, Canada, or UAE in the future.

My constraints:

  • I have 6–8 hours daily to dedicate outside my current job.
  • I face memory retention challenges, especially with coding syntax and abstract logic.
  • I have past experience with tech virtual assistance, but I want something more stable and future-proof.

My questions:

  • Is Data Analytics the right path given my background and constraints?
  • Are there other options I haven’t considered that might fit better?
  • What career paths are realistic to break into in 6 months, with remote potential and good pay?
  • Has anyone been in a similar situation and found a good way forward?

I’m open to suggestions, roadmaps, or any resources you found useful. I just want to make sure I’m not investing more time in the wrong direction again.

Thanks in advance for your help!
