Trip to Asia - Coronavirus?

I've attempted some research on the subject, but EVERYONE is lying. I'm in the US, and the CDC is most definitely lying. I've seen some local health departments announce confirmed cases. Those numbers aren't added to the CDC official list. Two days ago Humboldt County in California announced a confirmed case and a suspected mate. Both are "self isolating at home." I did not see the official CDC numbers increase. Costa Mesa California just received a court injunction to block 50 confirmed cases from traveling to one of their facilities. https://losangeles.cbslocal.com/2020/02/22/costa-mesa-coronavirus/

China has confirmed people can be re-infected. One man had it and was quarantined until cleared. He went to the doctor for a checkup 10 days later, and he now has it again. Pre-print research papers from around the world suggest this is a chimera virus - lab made. It appears to be designed to be an air born, highly virulent version of SARS with a bit of HIV thrown in for good measure.

It baffles me how people claim to know one way or another. It worries me that some legitimately believe they're right based on little to no evidence.

@OP Don't look to this forum for advice. The best anyone here can give you is anecdotal evidence and assumptions based on shit they've read. Anyone who speaks with certainty is suspect at best.

Considering you've paid for your flights you're honestly more likely to want to agree with the people telling you to just go. That's confirmation bias and it's hard to spot when you do it yourself. Best I can tell you is I wouldn't go myself and I certainly wouldn't go based on something posted here.

Some numbers of statistics, for you to consider:

US numbers, death reasons, statistics for 2017: (numbers would be pretty similar for 2019)
Cancer: 599,108
Respiratory disease: 160,201
Stroke: 146,383
Alzheimer: 121,404
Diabetes: 83,564
Influenza + Pneumonia: 55,672
Suicide: 47,173

Corona virus, total deaths so far in all world: less than 2,700

Most people eat total rubbish, live in polluted environment, exercise little, stress much. This doesn't concern them at all though it causes 100 times more deaths than corona virus...

Surely, don't go anywhere, lock yourself at home, watch TV, and buy hamburger and 2 liter coca cola for each meal. Enjoy the American dream ;)

This is a big quote but it should be quoted again. How the fuck does this even need explaining. Comparing this to Rabies or Malaria is ridiculous.
Lmao, I'm sure you don't have a Master of Mathematics in Statistics but you don't need one to understand the basics.

The issue isn't the number of people it has affected... it's the rate at which it's growing and no signs of it slowing yet.

This is exponential growth like 2^x. Read all about it: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exponential_growth

300px-Exponential.svg.png

As plain numbers, you can see exponential growth in S Korea:

Feb. 22: 433 cases (current day, still in progress)
Feb. 21: 209 cases
Feb. 20: 111 cases
Feb. 19: 58 cases
Feb. 18: 31 cases

This isn't linear, and it's certainly not logarithmic.

Also, you're comparing COVID to malaria, but malaria doesn't really effect the first world at all and is quite contained there. Seeing countries like SK unable to control it is what is freaking people out.

Malaria map below.

Yes it is, but the speed of light is faster than both of your bs. The growth..ffs the flu is still going stronger as that. Yes Southkorea has 433 cases right now.
BUT GUESS WHAT SK has 51.000.000 People living in their Country, which would mean even if it would double in the next 10 DAYS which would be redicoulus because they'll handle the situation after a while just LIKE IN EVERY OTHER COUNTRY BEFORE AND THE LAST DISEASES in the past 20 Years that spread around.
We would have 400.000 infected people which as you can see in china didn't even happen. So your statistic is complete BULLSHIT and doesn't workout.
Why are you trying to act smart? Malaria affects THE COUNTRIES HE IS TRAVELING TO LIKE THAILAND, MALAYSIA. JUST LIKE THE JAPANESE INFLUENZA.

You realise that you're just a trying to prove a point in your own logic that wouldn't workout in the real world?
We had swine flue, we had chicken flu, we have the real flu currently even different varieties of it.
And 2500dead people out of 6b..c'mon how many people die each minute of natural causes..how many of those 2500 where old people and babys?
Only one guy was a doctor but had a weak immune system..it is all written down, read the facts, not the mass hysteria..

You guys are just redicoulus if you think that something magical will happen and we will get all infected slowly and die out..ffs thats not how things work, you're not special neither is everyone else, we live we die thats it. Calm your arses and wait for it.

You type like a rampant 12 year old who just got his Nintendo DS taken away before a long weekend

I was in Vietnam couple weeks ago and just recently came back to Sydney.

Vietnam is taking a lot more caution compared to Australia, I guess the contagious level in Asia is a lot higher compared to most western countries due to the amount of people living in the same family, the size of a classroom is also a lot bigger.

I would say just wait for a couple more months, if you are young and not living with any old people or young kids, then you pretty much have nothing to worry about but god knows what's gonna happen next lol.

I've been traveling SEA for past 4 months. Landed in Cambodia for 6 weeks now.
When virus got bigger, some people started to wear masks.
I bought a n95 mask way before corona, because of shitty air. I'm more worried about long term exposure to polluted air than some flu.
Check airvisual.com. Some days are nice, with clean air, some days it creeps your lungs.
Dealing with corona is easy. Wash your hands regularly and don't touch your mouth/nose/eyes when you are in public. Its good practice anyway!

Don't be worried about it. Most is blown up by media for clicks.
Recently news came out that Russia has been fueling corona fears with their troll farms on social media. Don't buy into their shit :)

If you are under 40 and a non-smoker I wouldn't even worry about coronavirus at all

Your comment, and those of many others, prove how many retarded opinions are in this thread.

The first doctor who tried to issue a warning about the coronavirus was killed by it, and he was only 34.

Why don't you idiots go and tell his family that those under 40 are safe?

Coronavirus as of now is only found on old people and expected to be effecting only children and olds. There's yet no adult getting affected by Coronavirus.
Although because of this being spreading in China, I wouldn't prefer you to go to any country that is near to China.
The media actually have it stated the Coronavirus as a scary one which actually is. Although, some fake news has been spreading which might not be correct at all.
I guess you're okay to go and have a good trip. Make sure you take care of yourself out and don't stay in close contact with the residence of that country.

You gave opposite opinions. Pick one, or you are an idiot.

If it only affects children & elderly, they why tell him to avoid close contact with residents? Unless he's a child or an old man, he's fine. There is no reason to say this.

He grew up in smog conditions and was around smokers alot, and he maybe was a smoker himself.

A smog filled, smokers paradise only has 0.2% fatality rate under 40.

Another useless opinion. But I'm more than willing to look at facts. Please present hard evidence that non-smokers under 40 are completely safe. I'm waiting.

Hey look at the national news channel of those countries where you want to go. Be careful

To clarify, in SEA countries, there are diseases much MUCH more horrible than some flu.

Dengue fever - get a high fever from frikin mosquito bite. There are 4 strains of dengue, so you can get all of them consecutively. Easy to die
Japanese encephalitis - high chance to die or get retarded. Easy to avoid - don't go near rice fields
Rabies - it's still a thing in SEA. If you don't know how deal with stray dogs - low chance to get but easy to die
Malaria - those damn mosquitos again! Easy to die
Salmonella - drinking tap water is not good for western people, because our gut isn't used to it. Youll not going to die but will have awful stomach aches for 4 days(had it once, horrible)

You SHOULD do vaccines on:
Hepatitis A
Diphtheria
Typhoid
Polio
Measles
Mumps
Rubella
Tetanus

I did all of them before coming to SEA. It took 2 months to do all of them.
Consult your doctor on where are you going and what vaccines you should get. CDC website is a good source.
All those vaccines cost me about 300€ - I'm from Estonia

Its 0.2% when counting smokers and non-smokers. Smokers have a weaker immune system than non-smokers.

I'm staying in the States yes the media does hype it up. I have plans to travel in the future but for now I'm playing it safe
