Travel niche?

So I've been monitoring Flippa and some other marketplaces for the past few weeks, looking for an already established site to invest in and grow. During that time I've seen a lot of these vacation booking sites that use affiliate programs with sites like Expedia. According to the sellers, these authority travel sites pay between 2-6 dollars per lead- no sales, I just need to lead the visitor to the authority site.

Would one of these sites be worth buying? Or is there just too much competition in that niche? Would the fact that the content probably isn't unique (they most likely create one template and upload it to different domains to sell) be a huge factor, even for a site such as this? I'd just like to know if anyone has had any experience with this kind of thing, and whether they were successful or not.

travel niche is very saturated... they sell nice looking websites to newbies like you. To make some leads and earn some money you will need a traffic (a lot of HQ traffic) and that is not cheap and needs a lot of time. I would suggest that you go with some easier niche and try to earn through adsense or amazon...

I have 3 niche travel sites using hotelscombined,dohop,cj and Adense which make good money but you need to know what you're doing. I would advise not to jump into this market as it is oversaturated and the big boys will always dominate.

If its not popular and you are goign to build up, mhm.. its really hard. to many sites. Easier to move on something lese

I was thinking the same thing. I want travel site, Its just now that I saw this thread. Already bought domain. So probably give it a try or just use it for blogging. Any tips can you recommend guys so at least I can monetize the site?

Having tried it myself, the travel niche is very hard to do. Requires so much work to grow that I'd rather spend my time doing something more profitable.

If you really want to stay in the travels niche in some way, I'd suggest trying to find a low competition sub-niche.

In regards to lickfinder85 I am assuming you are talking about a host agency? The problem that I have encountered with host agencies is that you have to be located in the United States. The other problem is in order to get the IATA card you have to do a minimum in sales with that specific company. This would not be an issue but they do not allow you to promote them using XML or any other means that make sense as an affiliate. It's more for old world travel agents.

You can earn huge amount of money from any type of site. It doesn't matter that it is established by you or anyone established the site. The earning from site depends on the marketing and advertising of site. You need excellent skills for optimizing and marketing of your site and for best earning from your site.

We can't offer good advice unless you tell us the most important factor: how much the sites cost. If they cost less than what you would otherwise pay to have one made (assuming you outsource it), I would probably go for it.
