Transporting SIM cards on an airplane

Hello people!

The title sums up pretty much my question, but I will elaborate a little bit more. For my internet work, I have to use lots of SIM cards (in two years I have got more than 200). Now I am thinking about going to live to another country (I don't know which one yet, but I am thinking about Malta and I can't go with my car) to improve my English and/or learn another language, and I have been quite worried about bringing my SIM cards with me.

I have read that people transporting 10 SIM cards have had problems with airport security, so I would like to know if any of you have had this experience and if I should worry about moving :).

I had thought about it, but I guess that I am a little bit paranoic on not bringing them with me in the case that I lose them. But of course, if this is the only solution, I will do it. Thanks for answer :)
 
Never had a problem with 4-5. They don't even check. With 200, there might be a problem even if you parcel them (your local customs office may ask for an explanation). If you present the documents and can legally own that many sim cards (in my country I can legally own 7 sim cards afaik), there shouldn't be any problem. May be tell them these are for your employees lol.
 
I Live in France and you are authorized to have only 3 sim card at your name, maybe its the same law in the whole Europe ?
Some airport security are paranoic,they will probably ask you for document and if you are not able to provide these, they will just destroy your sim card or keep them to do some investigation .

Then it is harder in France. In Spain you can have multiple SIM cards per phone operator, and after awhile you can even order more (although it is getting more and more difficult). But the ones that I had were purchased activated on Ebay, so they are not at my name. This is what I was afraid of, that they will destroy them (no SIMs, not business)... I guess that my only option will be go somewhere with my car... How is France for living? :D

No, it's not in all Europe

Especially in Malta when the op want to go, they are very friendly.

First, I don't know if you "Gogol" nickname comes from "Nikolai Gogol" but I love this author :). Now, about your answer... That's what I thought, that maybe I could have problems. I guess that I could say your excuse to them about employers or invent another one, but I am afraid that the safest thing would be to move with my car somewhere else.

Yeah my nickname came from Nikolai Gogol lol. My father loves his writing. Coming to the topic, come up with an excuse and parcel it. You can retrieve it from the customs office anytime but if they catch you during check in, you might have to throw those away..
If you go by car, it should be the safest though.. but as you said you are not travelling by car right?

Your father has an awesome literature taste ;). Yes, that would be truly a problem because it is getting almost impossible to get SIM cards now in Spain, so I am stucked in these ones and if I lose them... Well, then I better go back to my professional field lol.

Well, I wanted to go to Malta because is the cheapest English-speaker country, but nothing else. If I can't go there or I see that there would be a risk, I could go to other UE country like Italy, Estonia (hell of a car trip), Slovenia, etc.
 
Couldn't you take a boat from Spain to Malta?
No need for a car there anyway.
And easy to transport SIM-cards.
 
I guess if you can explain why you have them and you're doing nothing dodgy, it's no different to having 200 plastic cups with you.

I searched about it and there is no direct way of going to Malta. At least I should do 3-4 escales and the cost would be extremely expensive.
 
If you are flying from an EU country and you put them in your checked baggage (the ones that you give to the check desk), the chances that they check your luggage is 0.
These lugages are checked by machines for explosives, guns and other dangerous equipment. I have been flying inside the EU for the past 20 years and I have never seen or heard of any checked-in luggage being ever checked.

Once, a friend of mine, returning from Amsterdam had his checked-in luggage checked for drugs. The funny thing is that he didn't have any drugs inside, the bag had the odor of cannabis from being in coffee shops and being touched by people who were smoking, so the dog picked up the smell, but it was just the left over smell on the fabric.

Again, I'm talking only about EU to EU flights.

Thanks for the anwser! Yes, for visa issues I want to stay in EU (I can live wherever I want... and I can afford), so flies would be inside EU. Hmm, that something to think about. I guess that I hadn't thought about checked baggage because I have heard many stories about them being lost, but it would be a nice idea for sure.
 
Why don't you give the sim cards to one of your friends or family member and get them to send 10 at a time by post or courier ?

It would take time to get them and I need them almost daily (not all of them, but I can't know which ones I will need). But I appreciate your idea and thanks for your message! ;)

Looks like you will have to take the gamble and put them in your luggage , or take 4 friends with you and give them 50 each .
 
Why is transporting simcards a problem? Was also planing travel with lot of sims ( 50-200 ) across Europe.
