So I am doing some keyword research on a keyword(s) that I am interested in creating a site about which I know can earn quick cash.

Anyways Traffic Travis is telling me the keyword has the following results:

US Count - 40,500 local monthly searches but competition is high.

I typed in the same keyword in Keyword Eye Basic and I get these results:

US Count - 27,100 local monthly searches but competition is medium.

Which one is more accurate on the competition and number of searches out of these two keyword research tools?

---

Also I checked the Ahrefs tool for the first couple sites for this keyword and the #1 spot has 4 backlinks but has some of the keywords in the domain.

The #3 spot has 322 backlinks but the actual URL doesn't contain the keywords but the /pagehere/ has the keywords.

So the last question is should I go towards trying to rank #1 for this keyword with a site with that few backlinks and high traffic but competition is medium to hard?

Check local monthly searches with Keyword Planner.

Regarding competition, more info is needed to tell if it's high or medium. Besides that what's high for you might be medium for me or the other way around. Some people evaluate competition based on what they've ranked in the past. If one has no SEO experience/background, then even ranking for an easy keyword might be hard. So it all comes down to your skills.

Yup, try keyword planner.. for competition.. don't trust such software... it's best you do your own research!

These tools rely upon their backlinks sources for competition analysis, the more backlinks they have access to, the higher they will give the competition at.

Thanks for the help everyone... I have done some more research and I think I am going to venture into this keyword.

Hopefully this site will be a hit since I already twisted a method on here earlier this week and started earning on auto-pilot.

Going 2 for 2 ;)

For volume, always check keyword planner and make sure you specify the duration, like past 3 months average, or past 1 year.
