I've been reviewing a lot of stories recently about SOPA and various other new means of censorship around the world and started to really feel the grip a few men with power can have on the rest of us. We should live in a democracy, these men are representatives of the people, not representatives of the companies. So my question is - why do the people have no freedom - why do we have no say and who the hell allowed them to go this long? Earlier, I made a £200 donation to the Wikileaks Foundation, not so they can disclose documents in itself and give away the information of our government, but rather to prove a point. No matter how powerful a government may think it is - the people will always win and as soon as we find out who is responsible - we will rip them from their throne of pride and ensure they crawl back to their cave. Recently I have even contemplated standing in politics, because as a generation grows fixed on technology, there will be an increasing demand for these attempts of censorship to be challenged which would act in my favor if it was to be my aim. Now of course I like in the UK, where our government has just willy-nilly handed over somebody to the US government for copyright infringement without the US presenting any evidence whatsoever for these allegations. Now who the hell gave our government the authority to send its own citizens to another country for prosecution - I am British, I obey the laws of my land, not the laws of the US no matter where the server is hosted or who I have dealt with. Personally, I think it would be nice if a reputable member, if possible, gathered some coders, designers and others to make a site (Hell, I'll buy you the hosting & domain, no objection at all) and to promote it - after all, most people here do IM on some level and the collective power this forum has to promote an idea most of us believe in is incredible. No profit - but I guess we're saving our own future. *Rant over* - Had to get it out of me.
