To All Evacuating For Hurricane Florence

It must suck to leave your home and not knowing what devastation you'll come back to. Stay safe!

A gentle breeze and they all run, personally I'd hang my washing out, it'll dry in no time lol!

I love the tough guys who are far away from any hurricane-related danger boasting about "here's what mundane thing I'd do if I was in that situation".

There are areas of North and South Carolina that will be wiped off the map. People are going to die. Tens of billions of dollars in damage will be done. It's not the wind with this one, it's the rain and the storm surge.

Some places stand to get 30 inches of rain over the next few days, along with over 10 feet of storm surge. Good luck drying your laundry out.

People will lose their homes, their belongings, their pets and in some cases their lives. And there are several other storms swirling and building out there.

But don't worry, here's some British nobody on an internet forum to weigh in on what they would do.

It was a joke, hence lol! At the end. We Brit have a sense of humour not understood by many other countries, especially the US. We had a storm in 87 and called it a hurricane. No offence intended, it was humour after all. I apologize. I wouldn't really hang out my washing BTW, that was a joke also

Stay safe! Between Irma and other recent horrible storms, the weather has been insane... hopefully too much damage won't be done!

When there's locals who make similar comments with complete seriousness, it's sometimes difficult to tell the difference.

With every major hurricane, there are always some who claim that it's a hoax, and try to convince others to go there and fight against the illegal evacuation. Every time, many will fall for the fake news, and pay with their life.

It's easy to make jokes when you're thousands of miles away. But please, try to have some sympathy for those who have friends and family members driving headlong into this storm, and likely to their own deaths.

I added lol! To it, so it was clear. I wasn't serious about hanging out washing. End of. No need to jump on the band wagon

A lot of 'hurricane truthers' are saying things very similar to "A gentle breeze and they all run", and the LOL could be interpreted as laughing at those who are running.

Since you're thousands of miles away, these are just nameless faceless numbers. To me, these are friends and family members, some of whom will almost certainly die. So I'm sure you'll understand if some of us find your "joke" to be in bad taste.

OK, I apologized already, nothing else I can do. I understand you dislike me, that's fine. I'm not going to say any more on the subject

I like the black humor of the brits and it was clearly meant as a joke. Whether it is a good idea to make jokes about natural disasters or not.
As a german (yes normally known for not beeing funny at all) i am still not able to understand the situation. Florence is the sixth! storm of the storm season. Most of the storms hit absolute the same regions and many buildings in these regions are build with wood.
The climate change (yes I know fake news) will bring us all more and more natural disasters, so we humans need to adapt.
It is a serious situation but not for the first time. It is a annual season and every year it seems to get worse. I hope the people don‘t stay there and maybe thing about relocating or building shelter,...
