We are always trying to get as much engagement as possible on all our ads. More engagement always results in cheaper ads and higher CTR.
Most valuable are comments and we spend a lot of time creating the perfect copy to get as many as we can. This, of course, means we get a ton of GIFs as well.
Since we mainly target mobile-only, I wondered if GIF comments affect loading the comment area and can affect CTR, so I run a case study where we started deleting GIF comments daily and compare the CTR. We haven't changed anything else and the CTR improved on the majority of ads.
We are still testing, and it doesn't mean it will work for you, but if you have a ton of comments you might consider testing
