Time to give up?

Hitting 100 UV per day is great as a start, at least you know there is traffic there once you hit the top half.

As a guide, the top 3 positions usually get the following CTR:

- 1st position - 40-60% of clicks
- 2nd position - 15-30% of clicks
- 3rd position - around 10% of clicks

and a big decreasing scale from thereon. This is all from memory but there are several case studies you can see where people have performed analysis. The data will also depend on your title, the user query and your description, aswell as your competitors which will affect the real CTR for your site based on user searches, but the above gives you a general guidance :)

You know what, you guys have made me see the light! lol, Seriously though, thanks everyone. Cant See the thanks buttons today, but thanks anyway :) And yes, I am on the bottom of the page, so now get to the top and indeed longtail it and add some related kw's in there, should do good.

Thanks for the support all, appreciated :)

You hit the first page not the no 1 ranking right. Hope you know no 1 rank gets 42% of the searches and rest gets much lower clicks.

  • Position #1: 45.46% of all clicks
  • Position #2: 15.69% of all clicks
  • Position #3: 10.09% of all clicks
  • Position #4: 5.49% of all clicks
  • Position #5: 5.00% of all clicks
  • Position #6: 3.94% of all clicks
  • Position #7: 2.51% of all clicks
  • Position #8: 2.94% of all clicks
  • Position #9: 1.97% of all clicks
  • Position #10: 2.71% of all clicks
  • Total: 95.91% of all clicks occur on Page #1 of SERPs

So for example you have a keyword with 95,000 exact searches per month. #1 could theoretically net you 42,000 hits per month, and a #4 position nets you 4,750. You get roughly 9 times the traffic at #1 than you do at #4. This has been true in my own experience as well. When I used to do adsense, I had a site go from around 75 visits a day at #7 to over 1k per day when I grabbed the #1 spot.. earnings from like $3 a day to $40-50 per day.

Look for the exact match [keyowrd here] match on the left hand side of Google Adwords Keyword Tool. Also make sure to rank #1 position for the keyword as you will gain 60% of exact traffic which should be more then 100 per day. I rank medical sites and work with them so I have exact matches that are quite low but still deliver good traffic.

Hope this helps.

:D:cool:

"Winners don't quit" is a huge misquote.

Winenrs mihgt not !quit" but they recognize they errors/mistakes and change or move on etc..

Insanity= to carry on doing what you have been doing and expect different results.

Winners do quit........in fact it can be the best course of action!

F@@@ing P@@@@d off!

OK, so after much studying, I find a KW that has a monthly global and local search of 95k according to adwords. Buy a domain containing that keyword then build a site around it. Do my SEO as best I can. Add plenty of good, unique content. Built some tier 2 sites around it and blasted them with wiki links and social bookmark links.

Then 2 days ago I hit page one for my KW, the first time I have ever managed to do this. of course I am really happy, seems the hard work paid off.

And then...

100 uniques a day since I hit page one.

WTF!

Time to give this up I think.

The fact that a keyword exists and has many searches does not mean that the keyword is an "action" keyword. Your keyword selection should take into consideration what the intent of the searcher is. Do they seek information, or a product/service?

Ipad gets plenty of searches, but what are the people actually searching for when they search? To by an ipad? Probably not. They may be seeking support, software, general information, specifications, or any number of things.

Any time you see a keyword with many searches and low competition ask your self why? Is it because the keyword doesn't make money, or because you found a undiscovered gem?

Gems are rare. This is why people target long tails.

Thanks for the good info. it is an 'action' KW. All good though, judging by arsis's post, I will soon be where i want to be. Thanks arsis btw :)
