Tik Tok banned today via exec order

Thanks for your reply. But that's my thing....what value or threat are they going to glean from your average 15 year old American tiktokker that is going help China discover America's secrets to their military, national security, pentagon files, access codes, information and technology etc.?

It's not like those American government personnel are secretly using TikTok themselves and uploading dancing videos at night when no one is watching. There is 0 evidence of any actual breach of serious threat or theft. If it's just knowing what you like to shop for, watch on the internet, and where you like to travel .....well of course, any app or software can do that and does that all the time.

But how is TikTok going to reveal the secret nuclear launch codes of the US nuclear stockpile, or give away the keys to the US banks and financial systems or whatever it is they are so scared of that TikTok is somehow able to infiltrate?

Let's forget the data aspect for a second and look at the danger they could pose just with their reach and influence.

It reminds me of this scene in one of my favorite movies Sneakers. Here is the transcript:

We were going to change the world, Marty, remember?

Did you ever get around to actually doing it? No, I guess not.

- Well, I think I can. - Really?

Yes.

What's wrong with this country, Marty?

Money. You taught me that.

Evil defense contractors had it, noble causes did not.

Politicians are bought and sold like so much chattel. Our problems multiply.

Pollution, crime, drugs, poverty, disease, hunger, despair.

We throw gobs of money at them.

The problems always get worse. Why is that?

Money's most powerful ability is to allow bad people to do bad things...

...at the expense of those who don't have it.

I agree.

- Who did you say you were working for? - That's just my day job.

While in prison, I learned everything in this world, including money...

...operates not on reality... - But the perception of reality.

Posit: People think a bank might be financially shaky.

- Consequence: - People start to withdraw their money.

- Result: Soon, it is financially shaky. - Conclusion: You can make banks fail.

I've already done that. Maybe you've read about a few?

Think bigger.

- Stock market? - Yes.

- Currency market? Commodities market? - Yes.

Small countries?

I might even be able to crash the whole damn system.

Yes, TikTok has great reach and influence, but it's not like the CCP are making videos trying to brainwash Americans. The content is being made by American people themselves and spreading it around to other Americans just like IG, FB, Twitter, YT.... actually TikTok isn't as big them, although they were growing fast. Let's talk real here guys. Have any of you felt like using TikTok has somehow brainwashed you into believing in Chinese propaganda? Do you really feel like they are putting a spell over you and making you revolt against your own country and go pro China? Is that the threat?

Btw, nice movie quote.

But I have to correct that script. Money is NOT the problem. Money has never been the problem. Money is only a tool or a finger for the real problem.

The real problem is human nature. Everybody wants to ignore this and shut their ears because they don't want to believe that human nature is fallible and corrupt. So we always look for something else to blame like money or drugs or crime. These things are not the cause of our situation. They are merely a product or tool for the root cause which is us. We are the problem.

Money doesn't corrupt. It magnifies what is already within you. Same with power. The more power you have it just magnifies what you are. When you have very little money or power, does it mean you have no evil within you? You do, but u just can't manifest well if that is what you are. So when you have a lot of money or power, now you are able to manifest those evil desires or corruption within you to greater extents.

And that's exactly how it should be.
Human nature and all living creatures nature if you will is in its essence characterized by one basic, main strive - the strive to survive, to be alive and well and to leave your genes in the genepool. Without it there can be no life on the planet.

The corrupt and fallible human nature comes naturally from that strive.

We are exactly where we should be and we are who we are - the good and the bad are both needed for our survival and progress and they form us as species and society.

I disagree. Animals main essence is characterized by one main instinct, and that is to survive. Humans aren't quite the same. Of course we strive to survive as that is built into our nature, but humans strive for something more than just survival and we are the ONLY living creatures that have this ability to strive for more. Your viewpoint is very much one of naturalism and mankind as just part of nature. Mine is of a theological order so we will differ on the value we place on the meaning and existence of human beings.

We are not exactly as we should be. To believe that living in a broken world while being in a broken state is perfectly normal and fine is the antithesis of my viewpoint. That's probably where this debate will end as ALL debates always come to this conclusion because this is the crux of everything in the universe. I appreciate your views and your replies even if I kindly disagree. Thanks redjebo and I guess we can always talk more about it in private if you ever wanted.
