This may be naive question but is tiered link building working for niche site as of 2018. I am new to seo and learning, thought of applying it on my new niche site.

Tiered link building is an integral part for link building effort - not only the structure will help pass link juice, it also doubles as a method to get the links indexed in the process.
Indexing your links through a tiered structure would help the links stay indexed longer, and better imo, as compared to those paid instant link indexing services.
But of course, make sure that the link list that you use, has some quality of sorts.

I believe that this question is not a closed-ended one.
And here's why:

Let's take who examples
a. you create web2.0 and then go order a fiverr gig to build 500 comments to that web2.0
b. you create web2.0 and then build 5 web2.0 with uniqe texts linking to this one and build 5 forum links also to this web2.0

While both a. and b. options can be considered as tier-2 link building, they are completely different.
In case a. your web 2.0 may even not get indexed because all those comments are from link dumps which also will never get crawled/indexed by Googlebot
In case b. your initial web2.0 is likely to get indexed and even gain some PA

My advice is to shift from "works/doesn't work" paradigm to setting objective goals.
Which goals?
For example to index a given page. Or to grow it's PA to 10 for example.
It's important because these are micro kpi's which will help you to build your SEO roadmaps and get rankings. Otherwise it would be betting, not SEO.

Sincerely hope, it would help you.
Good luck with your beginnings! :)

It works for sure. You should learn about it. And then do it in proper way. You may get long term results.

This reply is quality. Thanks a-Lot. I will be using expired web2.0's with good DA-PA for Tier 1 and again web2.0's with good DA-PA(will not be using much time on this one tho) for tier 2 and blog commenting with 301 Url shortner(for more juicy juice) on tier 3 and blasting those shortened url's with GSA . How does that sound guys? I m gonna wreck it like right starting now

Yes sure it works. It's always good for your website seo planning, owing to the link juice that it passes.

Yes you can still rank with tiered link building. Read around the forum and you should same simliar strategies

If you do it manually, you'll probably have better results.

But if you use AUTOMATION, most of your links won't even count... The return on effort might not be there.

Yes, Googlebot's Eigenvector calculations give many-tiered pyramids a much higher score. The low-authority URL's, that are much less competitive, mean fewer webmasters removing those backlinks, the ultimate death-nail to black hat. Use Web 2.0 and PBN sites, with editorials, not sales' pitches, and have two backlinks, one to your website, and one to the next highest tier. This way, if articles are removed, there are lower tier backlinks pointing to your site, so your pyramid won't crumble. Manual posting (eg. Scrapebox) for sites that block anchor text or give you no-follow credit, usually for the first 10-15 posts, are usually high authority URL's and worth seeking out, especially for multi-tiers as it will appear you are endorsing a third party with their anchor text, as these sites are carefully managed. But automation postings after that, about 5-20 unique comments a day, should work, but be weary of user deletions from the plugin Bulk Delete.

Does tier link building still work? Yes if you follow the steps accordingly and perfectly. Anything in the SEO done perfectly by the standards still works but most of the tier 2 and tier 3 links are not effective much in the present era of SEO.

Let me share some of my knowledge about Tier Link Building with you-
First Tier contains - High quality content sharing, making backlinks on High PR sites and search engine submissions.

Second Tier contains - Links on relevant category sites like making blogs and posting on same category forums. For example if your website's category is women fashion shopping then you must post on relevant same categorized sites like women fashion, latest trends on women fashion. Blog commenting also play a major!

And the Third Tier contains - Quantity links, In this you have to post more and must increase the number of backlinks you are making. Syndication of articles, Web 2.0 and social profile links are examples.
