Hi

Does anyone still do tier link building and do you think it still works ?, also how many tiers do you use and do you include links from tools like GSA and RankerX in your strategi?

Are your tier-one pages indexed? That would be worth checking before adding more layers. Also, what links would you build with GSA or RankerX? The tool name alone doesn't tell us the quality of the links.

Tiered link building still works, but the strategy has changed completely compared to a few years ago.

If your Tier 1 consists of contextual, editorial placements with real organic traffic and clean anchor text distribution, sending Tier 2 web 2.0s or contextual niche links directly to those Tier 1 URLs helps get them indexed faster and pass authority safely.

However, blasting low-quality Tier 3 automated links is mostly a waste of resources now since Google simply ignores undiscovered spam or drops the pages from the index entirely. Focus heavily on Tier 1 quality and let Tier 2 just act as an indexing/authority booster for those specific URLs.

I know very little about tiered link building yet but i would take caution regarding automatic links using something like GSA or RankerX in my opinion quality and relevance seem more important than making several tiers looking forward to hearing how this can be done safely nowdays

Yes

Thanks, that was what i was after, so to have good solid tier 1 is a must of course, but i wanted to know if the effect of tier 2 or 3 pass good link juice so to speak still works, not that much about getting the tier 2 links index, more about seeing a rank increase with the whole structure

Tiered link building can still have a place, but I’d focus on relevant, quality links rather than relying on automated tools.

definitely! i think tier link building still has value but quality matters more than quantity.

i sometimes use automated tools for lower tiers with proper filtering and control.

Tier link building still gets discussed, but I think the quality of links matters more than how many tiers you build. Stuff from automated tools can easily turn into a pile of links with no real value. I'd rather keep things relevant than build multiple layers just for the sake of it.

I agree with SadiqArshad and Alice9090 here. Tier 1 quality is what makes the rest work, and adding more layers does not help if those first links are weak or not indexed. Garlick made a good point about checking indexing first, because tier 2 links will not pass much value to pages Google has not found yet.

I would keep it to two tiers at most, as blackfighter01 said, and use the second tier mainly to support the tier 1 pages rather than to chase a ranking jump on its own. Like Urbancosmos, I would only use automated tools lower down and with strict filtering, and I would not let them near tier 1. If the structure is not moving rankings, I would look at the tier 1 links themselves before building more tiers.

Tiered link building is still discussed, but I’d be cautious with automated links from tools like GSA or RankerX. They can create low-quality patterns and risk penalties. I’d focus on relevant, editorial links and strengthening useful content rather than building multiple artificial tiers.

tiers still work for me but only when tier 1 is real links (guest posts, niche sites) and tier 2 just helps them get indexed. I wouldnt point GSA or RankerX at a money site, only at T2-T3 and carefully, Google just doesnt index a lot of that stuff now

avoid relying heavily on automated tools like GSA or RankerX. Keeping the links relevant, natural and diversified is more important than building huge volumes.

Hi

How many levels? Most people who continue to do it use two levels, maybe three. Level one is okay, relevant backlinks such as guest posts or niche edits, and level two is a slight bump to that. Everything past that is just noise.

still works for me but way toned down lol, tier 1 has to be real contextual links or the whole thing falls apart. auto blasts on lower tiers feel like a waste these days imo

The consensus in this thread is the part I would follow most closely: tier building still has a place, but only when Tier 1 is genuinely strong. SadiqArshad put it well, and Garlick's first check is the right starting point, because there is little point adding layers to a Tier 1 page that is not indexed or getting traffic on its own.

For the question about how many tiers to use, I would stay at two, as blackfighter01 and Muhammad Shakeel suggested. I would use Tier 2 mainly to help Tier 1 get indexed and to support a page that already makes sense, not to chase a ranking jump from the whole structure at once. That also means keeping anchors varied and the Tier 2 pages relevant, rather than blasting a large automated set, which several replies here, including Renata Solis and Lucas786, warned against with tools like GSA and RankerX.

A practical check I use is to separate the two measurements: first, is the Tier 1 page indexed and does it get impressions, and second, is the target page itself actually moving for its intended keywords. If Tier 1 is weak, fix that first. If Tier 1 is solid but the target page is not moving, the problem is more likely the target page, its content, or its keyword choice than a missing third tier.

I think tiered link building can still work, but the quality of the links matters more than the number of tiers. Personally, I'd keep it simple with one supporting tier and avoid relying too heavily on automated links from GSA or RankerX.

Tiered link building can still have some effect, but the real question is whether the links provide genuine value or are simply built to manipulate rankings. I personally wouldn’t use GSA or RankerX-generated links as a core strategy for a money site.

Thanks, SEOMonster01, for pulling this together. I agree that the separate check you described is useful, because it keeps the focus on whether Tier 1 is indexed and getting impressions before adding anything else. If Tier 1 is solid and the target page still is not moving, looking first at the content and keyword choice makes sense to me.
