This Video Destroyed NFTs

I was going to mention Steam, but I was under the impression that the steam marketplace was completely built for this. Can't you buy CSGO stuff on the marketplace? Meaning, if you do decide to quit playing a game, you have the complete freedom to sell all your stuff on the marketplace? I guess my understanding here is I don't see the need for this to be a Web 3 activity because it seems to be a matter of whether or not a specific game allows it or not. It seems like a matter of company policy and not whether or not it can be facilitated. There's definitely an existing infrastructure to buy and sell in-game items.

Again, I could be wrong, but it does seems like it's something that's completely capable of happening on Web 2, it's just a matter of policy from company-to-company whether or not they want users selling and buying in-game products. Any game developer can open up a marketplace and take a cut of the in-game products if they wanted to do this already. That's what I'm confused about.

Not trying to be an asshole, but I'm genuinely curious about how this is supposed to be different in the NFT space.
Yes steam has a marketplace but the money you get from it you can only spend it on steam so not really as good as actually getting your money back and spending it on whatever you want, in fact, it's a master play by Steam because not only do they take 3% fee from each sale but they also force you to use that money in the steam eco system so it's a double win for Steam in the grand scheme of things.

Also, running a marketplace with no exploits is a whole lot harder & requires a lot more investment from a gaming company than doing so through an already established blockchain where all they need to do is integrated contracts, plus blockchains are always 100% safe instead of using 3rd party websites

This has been the best argument presented for NFTs that I've seen. Thank you for supplying your feedback.

No problem! I don't see much utility in its current form, and don't understand whats all the hype about those profile pics going for hundreds of thousands of dollars, however, I do see massive potential for gaming, hopefully the industry starts moving in that direction in the future.

As for other utilities, I have no clue what people will be using NFTs for and if they'll solve anything or improve any already existing solutions, guess we'll have to wait and see
