This Video Destroyed NFTs

i just checked, and the floors of well-known NFTs are still there. what did this video destroy exactly?
i will never understand the right click argument. sure, you can save the image. can you also sell it for 20 ETH or whatever? no? then what are you so smug about?

It should concern you that people are selling pixelated images that have no real value and are manipulating people on what they’re actually receiving - a treasure map and not the treasure. If you’re rebuttal is “well if people are buying and selling scam products willingly, why not cash in?” Then I’d say it depends on where your morals are and if you’re okay with a movement manipulating millions of people.

This video did nothing LOL

Copyright laws still apply.

Good luck with the right clicking ;)

I think you missed the point. At the end of the day, it’s a web 2 image with the illusion of it translating to a web 3 property when in reality it seems like that’s not the case.

I understand it, but it's one of those things where its moving and evolving around the people.

If you don't learn to adapt and evolve, you'll get passed up.

I say, try to understand it more from the investor side in order to learn exactly where the value is.

Either way, interesting topic and NFT's will become more and more popular.

I predict stores will start using them, etc. Just like BTC and payments. It's just "one of those things"

NFT for the sake of artwork is stupid - but the underlying technology of being able to track the genesis and ownership is invaluable.

Imagine that every great artwork has an NFT associated with it - when it gets sold, the token is transferred but there's a log of who was the last owner of that artwork, so you know it's real and not a knock-off. Also the original creator (the artist) gets a % of revenue each time it's sold, so as it appreciates in value they make a commission.

Now apply it to real estate, where the builder creates an NFT that gets passed along in the sale of each home - not only is the developer able to make a residual each time it's flipped, there's greater transparency on who owns the home.

Do the same thing for rentals, and you can minimize rental fraud - so it's difficult for someone to rent out a place they don't actually own.

There's a lot of potential - it's just unrealized at this point - but it applies more to the blockchain than NFT specifically.
My issue with decentralization is that it makes confidential agreements public, and it makes ownership public. BHW values anonymity more than any other sector on the internet, so it’s strange seeing people promote the idea that all their contractual agreements being made public is a good thing.

It also seems like this idea of true ownership of digital assets only being made possible on the blockchain feels silly. There might be value in the blockchain, but we’re suggesting that a blockchain is the only way to handle a decentralized digital contract? Give me a break. Do you know what else is a decentralized digital contract? A regular PDF document signed by both parties. Adobe doesn’t own the PDF format, and if done correctly, it’s completely legally binding.

It seems like people who are overly optimistic about the block chain are finding the 1% example of where a blockchain might have value and applying it to 99% of use cases.

That’s my two cents, but I’m also a skeptic because if new technology emerges, it needs to be truly better than the old technology. It can only get made better with criticism, and ill be a critic of blockchains and NFTs as long as there are people who are over zealous about their usage… and there are plenty of those people.

Just my two cents. Maybe I’m wrong. Who knows. None of us.

And clubhouse will be “one of the big social networks”. That was a narrative at the beginning of the year. Look at it now.

Clubhouse is still very new. It takes social platforms YEARS to become anything worth looking at from the public eye.

Its crazy to me how new generations come along. I mean, look at TikTok. It's literally the same as youtube but just shorter. Its crazy how things evolve but with time eventually anything will evolve if given proper production

Its pump and dump after all. Guys like Gary Vee are earning a fucking shit ton of money from NFTs and hype them.

Also, when you hear these guys explaining the NFTs, etc. you hear how hyped and thrilled they are, how they want to convince, but what they actually say is absolute bullshit and rarely makes sense.

Yea I agree.

It takes a reputable name behind the NFT in order to provide value. Celeb, influencer, etc. It has to have someone like this behind it in order to have value.

Eventually, it won't be needed. But for now, yes it's needed

Neither of these things is true.

Explain.

And to back up my point on “BHW values anonymity more than any other sector on the internet” my suggestion thread for BHW sellers to be verified by staff was met with such crazy backlash from nearly half the people in that thread because they valued their anonymity so much. They’d risk their own safety in the marketplace in order to maintain their anonymity, so feel free to give me evidence suggesting that BHW doesn’t value anonymity.

What’s your real name, by the way? Care to share?

Decentralization has nothing to do with making confidential agreements or contracts public. You just don't know what you are talking about. You can still maintain complete privacy if that's what you desire while being decentralized.

Lots of people on BHW have doxxed themselves. It's relatively common. Many of the mods/admins are doxxed here. Me not wanting to share my information doesn't somehow mean that people on BHW value their anonymity more than anywhere else. I don't want to doxx myself on Twitter either, or Reddit, or dozens of other sites where bad actors may misuse the information.

You just seem way too confident about topics you don't know much about. It's a bit weird, to be honest.

I literally just said it's my opinion and I could be wrong 57 minutes ago, so don't say I'm acting weird you dork.

Just my two cents. Maybe I’m wrong. Who knows. None of us.

I put it right here in case you missed it.

Also, I'm one of the few people who has openly revealed my identify. I don't care if people know who I am. Click on my signature and look at my fat-ass talk about growth services.

It's not hard to find out who I am, so that's why I'm perplexed by all these anime avatars and usernames who pretend like they're in a 1990's hacker movie talk about how they would never share their personal information to anyone on the internet... and then claim that transactions being made public and real estate documents being linked to their crypto wallet is a good idea. I think that's shit is weird and perplexing, and I'm waiting for someone to explain it to me and nobody has. So if you're gonna call me confident about topics I don't know anything about, educate me. Tell me how those ideas aren't conflicting. I've always been open to hearing sides of the argument but I haven't been given one. Link a video or something. Link a website. Give me something to go off of.

But please note, I have a bias. I'm pretty open about my bias. I hate scammers and shady shit. I've seen way too many people get scammed with crypto, NFTs, etc. The founders of Tether are all scammers and shady, so many rug pulls have happened... they're resurrecting Stan Lee to push shady NFTs he had nothing to do with... the list goes on and on. So feel free to tell me why this is all a good thing and why this all makes sense.

To follow up on this, I don't think there's been a social media website that has had a "resurrection" where it was launched, hyped, died, and then became a powerhouse.

I don't think that's ever happened. I think clubhouse was a bad idea from the start, and I've been open about that. I wrote https://www.blackhatworld.com/seo/rip-clubhouse-2020-2021.1329735/ on how Clubhouse and new ideas get pushed by influencers all the time, and when they fail, the influencers just move on to the next thing and pretend the bad thing they suggested never happened. I fear that with a lot of things right now, and it's going to spiral and get a lot of people into trouble. BitClout was the exact same thing, to a lesser degree.

Wait until you find out how many people have been scammed and how much shady shit happens on BlackHatWorld. But I am sure you can see the value on BHW also, right, despite the scams and shady shit? And the internet in general, right?

No, I've been a critic of the validity of the marketplace on BHW for a long time, and that's why I opened the thread requesting that sellers become verified. My whole theory in that thread is if sellers continue to scam on BHW, then the utility of BHW as a whole declines. I have the exact same theory when it comes to crypto and web 3.

Are you reading any of the criticisms in this thread or are you just blasting your NFT and crypto opinion?

Is this you right now?

If so, then I guess I'm this:

Just jokes bro. I don't care if you think crypto and NFTs are great and contain little to no flaws - I just don't want people getting scammed. Hopefully we're on the same page with that.

Scams are bad and they ruin things.

I wish BHW did more to prevent people from getting scammed, and I wish the crypto/NFT community did more to protect people from getting scammed. Like I said earlier, there are some use cases for crypto and the blockchain right now, but it's getting exploited by a toooooonnnnnnnn of scammers and that's causing issues with the technology as a whole.

The number one video on r/Videos right now.

"Coffeezilla interviews the man who built NFTBay, the site where you can pirate any NFT: Geoffrey Huntley explains why he did it, what NFTs are and why it's all a scam in its present form"

Any rebuttals?
NFTs can and will be used for a lot of shit in the future, most likely related to gaming.

Just because you think they are a scam since you don't see any utility in them (in your opinion) does not make them a scam.

Imagine playing League of Legends and every single skin being an NFT.
Stopped playing?
Sell the skins to other players and get some of your investment back & the company gets a % of each sale in the NFT Marketplace.
It's a win for every consumer out there.

Even in some games right now NFTs can act as equipment, virtual lands, etc.

The utility is already there, right now it's mostly for Gaming but I'm sure it will have more utility with time, it's only booming for the past year so it's still early, can't wait to see what people will be using it for in a few years once it grows the way cryptocurrency did.

So here's a valid question:

Isn't there already like... marketplaces for this stuff? I thought selling skins and stuff has been around for 15-20 years. People have been selling Runescape accounts and items since the early 2000s.

Not really, you can sell accounts but that's against most games ToS and uses outside services where you can easily get scammed, while if everything is done on a blockchain it means the game accepts trades (thus no longer breaking ToS) and since you can't really fuck with the blockchain each transaction is a lot safer than buying on 3rd party websites. As for selling Skins right now, that's only available for most steam games & again, that's breaking Steam ToS and most sites seem to get shut down every now and then (used to know a lot for cs go and most of them no longer operate).

NFTs coming into mainstream gaming will push towards mainstream games turning nearly everything into NFTs which allows for you to get back ur investment once you stop playing, obviously this wont happen right away but once it does it's going to be a big win for everyone out there (maybe not as big for the gaming company itself since it's likely for them not to sell as many skins anymore although they will have a healthy skin marketplace & get fees from those)

NFT is just tool. money laundering and scam has hapened before nft exist.
the difference since nft on blockchain it's 100% transparent and you can check what really hapened, so now every single scam you can see it. as before 90% of scam only cops know .
also nice clickbait title lol

here is the big diff, selling skin before is linked to the game server. if game server dead your item loss. now with NFT it exist on blockchhain, as long blockchain network exist it will never disappear.

I was going to mention Steam, but I was under the impression that the steam marketplace was completely built for this. Can't you buy CSGO stuff on the marketplace? Meaning, if you do decide to quit playing a game, you have the complete freedom to sell all your stuff on the marketplace? I guess my understanding here is I don't see the need for this to be a Web 3 activity because it seems to be a matter of whether or not a specific game allows it or not. It seems like a matter of company policy and not whether or not it can be facilitated. There's definitely an existing infrastructure to buy and sell in-game items.

Again, I could be wrong, but it does seems like it's something that's completely capable of happening on Web 2, it's just a matter of policy from company-to-company whether or not they want users selling and buying in-game products. Any game developer can open up a marketplace and take a cut of the in-game products if they wanted to do this already. That's what I'm confused about.

Not trying to be an asshole, but I'm genuinely curious about how this is supposed to be different in the NFT space.

I guess if I'm playing devils advocate against my own position, I'd say the incentive for game developers to create NFTs for in-game items is so they can make money via crypto and find ways to keep the money off the books. But again, that feels like something they could do now. I imagine some game developers have figured out that they can create their own 3rd-party marketplace and manufacture demand and supply in order to make money off their virtual items and keep it off the books using various off-shore hosting, etc.
