I've sold a product to a ebayer and provided tracking number.

He received the package, but he said the box was open and empty, and someone along the shipping stole the product.

He escalated the case to ebay, saying just that he received an empty box.

In 30 minutes ebay closed the case, taking the money from my Paypal refunding the buyer.

Conclusion, I send the product and don't have the product neither the money, how in the world can ebay decide in the favor of the buyer?

If it's "just like that", then what's stopping me from buying iphone 5 and say that I received an empty box to get the iphone for free?

Only your honesty is preventing you from doing that.

Empty box, partial refund for missing pieces, subtle feedback extortion - it's all part of the great ebay game.
 
Thanks for reminding me why I left selling on ebay years ago.

I might make a buyer's account again. If I sell again, it will be done so precisely, it will be a huge waste of time, and then someone will just bullshit me by leaving fake feedback or saying the product didn't deliver. American Dream this is.

One method is to choose more expensive shipping options like sign on delivery, hold it at a post office, or something. (I bet this is what someone selling on ebay wanted to hear: more costs, more fees).

What the hell happened to ebay? Seriously? Is it that they just need competition to get their heads out of their asses? At least Walmart has Target to compete with it, you know?

You wonder how easy it would be nowadays to pull this off.

I hadn't received my item. I went to the post office to check, wasn't there. So I messaged the buyer, and he sent another. When I went to pick it up from the post office, there were 2 waiting for me. I questioned where the other one was, and the guy admitted it had been sitting there for 2 bloody months.

Now had I been impatient and had the buyer not responded well, I would have filed a dispute. Poor guy could have gotten negative feedback and given me a refund for nothing!

There are so many ways Ebay can go wrong. And I think I'd be a bit nervous all the time if it were my only income.
 
I'd hate to say it but XHBTR is right, C'est la vie. You must have a contingency or allowance for this type of thing whether it is eBay or Paypal unfortunately. They are definitely not infallible, and massive nuisances when things go awry, to say the very least -_-
 
Wow.... that is ridiculous. I have been selling on eBay for some years now and never have run into that..... and I hope that I don't. Having the offenders address would be too much temptation to get even!
 
Sorry to hear this happened, but you have to figure a loss factor into your price because there crooks out there and its going to happen.

How much did your item weight?

How did you ship it?

What was the price range?
 
eBay generally assumes that the transaction will be further handled by the postal carriers insurance policy. This is why they were quick to refund the buyer, as you are the person that is responsible for seeking the insurance claim. However, the buyer can BEAT you to the insurance claim and say that he bought ______ and it was worth ______ and he wants to file a claim which would prevent you from reclaiming your money lost.
 
Seriously, I now understand many of the guys here saying that ebay and paypal sucks. I guess that we are always learning.

I could add insurance to the product I shipped, but then that would mean more costs, and I wouldn't be able to compete with the other sellers.

I'm not from USA so I don't know any more websites to sell for USA, but if someone can tell me a few known ones would be nice.
 
That's is a sad experience. I have not sell anything on ebay, but I bought few things from there.

ebay in most cased takes the side of the buyer without any investigation and screw the seller.I had once a buyer filling a case because the item wasnt fitting his room lol (claimed too small) although i did mention all the dimensions clearly in the listing so it is not my responsibility to know if it will fit his room or not (it was a wall clock),you cant do much in these cases , although in your case for example having weight data and insurance might could work.
 
This happened to me a few times, thankfully smaller items, but the case was made and already decided on by eBay before I even logged in the next day. I've given up on eBay at this point but what the hell is that about?
 
On eBay if you want to be safe you have to ship everything tracked and insured. It adds cost to the item so it's a hassle if you are selling cheap bits but if you want to protect your money it's the only way to go.
 
Sheesh... You'd think they'd at least listen to what the seller has to say.. Do they act like this when a reputable dropshipping company is used?
 
I had a buyer buy an item from me then wanted an exchange. So I told himship it back I will ship you a new item, costumer said I will ship it in 24 hours. So 2 days later I ship a replacement and costumer never shipped me an item. Told eBay about they didn't do sh@t about it, told me it's my fault and they can do anything. I explained that I did it to provide a good costumer service and make our eBay community look good and make a eBay look as a good company in costumers eyes and shipping an item before receiving an original. It's only 10 bucks and I lost like 4 dollars but still it's the principle thing.
 
eBay is bad for sellers.

If you a buyer knows the system then he/she don't have to pay return shipping. Even if seller has a NO REFUND policy it doesn't matter buyer always win the dispute.
