Thesis ideas. Anonymity and online tracking

Hi all!

I am working on my thesis related to anonymity and tracking on the Internet. I am still collecting information and researching and I wonder if you could help me. I am still not sure how to focus my investigation, but I thought of talking about anonymity in general at first, web browser identification, vpns, tor protocol.... but then I want to talk about money tracking (maybe something related to vcc, money "laundry", cryptocurrencies )

I don't know, what do you think? Is it very typical? Should I research on something more specific?

Thanks! But I don't quite agree. There are many nodes in tor that track your steps. I would say that TOR is no more a good method for staying anonimous
 
What do you think about ipredator vpn? it enables you to pay with bitcoin
 
You need to provide more background, a context. For example, MS or Ph.d. What is your field, sociology, politics...?

Ups, true. It is a Ms degree and I have studied Computer Science
 
So your thesis should more be about the technical aspects of anonymity online than the personal or sociological aspects of it. It looks to me that you have your topic already. A poster suggested Fast Flux Networks as used by botnets. You could write about who would require the highest level of anonymity, criminals, why, so they can steal or provide illegal services without getting caught, then how they do it. This would allow you to compare, a technique like fast flux networks to the TOR system, silk road etc, and show that any method that requires interaction with some one can be compromised, silk road, and doesn't provide true anonymity. You could also discuss the recent ransomware episode in terms of the anonymity of the perpetrators, but not of the agent. Therefore the agent was analyzed and disabled.
