Have you noticed that quite a few people are looking for technical cofounders or CTOs right now? I, for one, get a surprising amount of these queries; most of them along the lines of “hey, I have this vibe-coded app, would you like to make it production-ready”. I have sort of a profile for these people. Think someone who knows their business but has always lacked the technical skills to make their ideas happen — a legal counsel, perhaps, or an account manager.

Why would these people need me? That's what I've thought about a little bit, and I think there is an important signal here: What is it exactly that they can’t get done with GenAI alone? This is something everyone is trying to understand, right? Everyone wants to know what these models can do. Or, to be a little blunt, everyone wants to know which jobs are soon to become obsolete. The fact that I get these requests says something about software engineering. I mean, if software engineering was automated, no one would be looking for technical cofounders.

I'm in several reddit groups about guys making all type of software fully vibe coded. It's funny how they earn their first $10K, and then they blow up when they try to scale it, because $10K is peanuts, investors are starting to get overwhelmed with this kind of shit, and you still don't have money for a real engineer to take control of such piece of crap (plus that engineers are starting to vibe code and slowly starting to lose all their skills)

We are in weird times when people are willing to go faster than we should. Things take time and not everyone can be in the crest of the wave because there is no enough crest for everyone.

there are a few businesses i have seen that are building exactly that as a service now. basically handholding for the last 20% where vibe coding may not be possible. not really sure how good it is but not a bad idea considering the space

It's not a bad business model but I think it'll always come down to these two cases:

1) For the sake of making money ignore the bad code that just works, focus on the broken stuff and patch it up, the result is fragile code but you get your money and the customer is satisfied in the short term.
2) You propose a full rewrite and if the customer accepts you find yourself writing a new codebase from scratch.

At this point you either go with 1 or find yourself prospect willing to do things properly from the beginning.

I am very happy that I learned how to code before LLMs. I can actually diagnose an issue and fix it manually without prompting LLMs.

I was in the age of searching for niche issues on stack overflow and hours of google searches.

LLMs spit out large marble blocks that you have to chisel down to exactly what you need, If you dont have actual technical ability that starts to show real fast when developing sophisticated applications.
