The Ultimate Amazon Thread Mark 2 - Q/A - Good/Bad

I also agree with the comments a few people have made.

I pick a specific keyword - gear up my site to sell it -- but then I add other content to attract visitors from other keywords -- so its not a one trick pony it can rank for multiple keywords and bring enough traffic to make a decent amount of money.

So many questions have been posted on the keyword aspect of it - but you know it is overall fairly simple -- Find A Niche - See A Problem --> Provide Solution and Further Information with Extra Products/Accessories.

Its never 100% guaranteed every target with be successful so you can't get upset about it -- but when you do have a successful site learn from it - then scale it.

Also as far as the hunting knife thing someone posted -- there are thousands of much better things to pursue - that people buy on a daily basis -- small/large low cost/high cost - find yourself something that has some staying power.

Cheers

I also want to add a comment on the Seo Side of things and how what you learn here translates into a business elsewhere.

A client I had launched a product that costs $70,000 -- its a fairly unique product but there are other competitors around - however over 6 months we followed a similar Seo Strategy that I do for these sites and now he ranks for 20+ Keywords Local / USA / International Keywords and pretty much dominates the niche... so whenever you search for that product you either see his site / a property built to support it or the submissions made for the product ...... again at the core of the whole thing is to provide quality content on-site -- throughout the properties and distribution channels ---> tackle some of the easier local terms and then branch out into the larger ones as your sites/properties age some.

So in the long run - operate your Amazon Business - but then expand to providing services to businesses for extra income.

That's it from me today .. cheers.

Thanks for the Info but Netspend takes too much money when you use the ATM. I would go with Payoneer

Danny I've literally read through every page of both your first azon thread and this one and I'm almost ready to get started. I know you do not like to harp on keywords so I'll be specific and brief. I think I've found a good niche with low competition, relatively high global search volume but once I start plugging in buying keywords of these specific high volume searches the traffic drops off to almost nothing. So lots of searches for "general keyword" but 10< searches for "buygeneralkeyword" or "generalkeywordreviews" etc. So would you say to focus on more generalized high volume EMD keywords and hope traffic converts or dig deeper? Or should I just shut up and experiment and see what works best for me?

Something that nobody has mentioned is that google automatically tests your site against multiple keyword possibilities in your niche, to figure out if your relevant or not, and how many people will click through, and then your bounce rate.

So if you start to get people clicking on certain keywords and phrases, just start building those into articles, and possible expansion ideas. You'll need an analytics package setup.

I'm in the same boat. Interested in hearing some feedback from others

The best way is to get going. You'll learn everything you need on the road, but you should pick up a few sites at once, and get them up and running with one article at first, make sure the design is fine, and then you can spend all your time writing a new article for each site, and then repeating the process until you have 10 articles minimum. After a couple of months you'll learn more than everything combined in this thread!

although it is a close second ;)

When I got started I picked a few different niches. I recorded the keyword data. I designed the sites with premium templates, and figured out my operation method.

Now all I do is either write articles myself, or outsource them. Just pick some niches that interest you, or you think you can write about. If your new to doing this, you need to write quite a few articles before your actually any good.

I started reading the thread from the begining for about two hours, now on page 5. Many thanks Danny.

My question:
You say this is only a method for selling Amazon products... Why can't I use this method for selling products with some other affiliate programs (for example CJ.com)? What would be different?

You could use it with CJ easily. Just don't expect the high conversions that you get with amazon. Also each of the CJ affiliates have different t&c's about what you can and can't do. With amazon its easy and fast to understand, and everyone will happily click on an amazon link.

It looks like I missed the survival knife discussion from a few pages ago which is along the lines of my question. Think I'll give this some more thought hopefully I can figure it out :)

Danny I am running out of post-its, whiteboard space and my tablet + phone are filled with "digital" stickies with all these notes! lol.

Update for may, didn't do too well, low conversion and a few less clicks. But that's my fault since I have slacked a little due to a lot going on with work and home, but hopefully this week I can get caught up and get moving again.

I know this forum is mainly basing off people doing seo but im curious has anyone had any experience using social networks as their main traffic driver? Were conversions and everything ok? Im curious cause I plan on using a nice instagram to send traffic to my website.

I know amazon doesnt allow mobile only sites but if the site is primarily a standard site and allows you to be mobile then would be it good? I mention this mobile part cause of lot of instagram users are mobile even tho I plan on integrating it with a facebook and twitter as well

I totally dont agree with this.

If a restaurant serves good hamburgers, but the building and the interior is dirty, old color, crappy atmosphere, will you still eat those hamburgers ?

I personally wont.

Design is part of the trust process. If it doesnt bring trust, how are you going to make any sales?

My point is not to invest all your money into design. But those 3 knife sites are ugly. I would not buy from them because I dont trust them enough.

Same thing goes with site structure. You want to make a structure meant for your audience, so it increases the trust. You want to be a figure of authority at the eye of your audience.

Hey what would you see as a nicely designed website? Any example site that you come across??

I was of the opinion that the niche pursuits guy has made a simple and effective design.

First of all, thank you very much for all that you have shared. I have read the entire thread.

Posting links to Google alerts was mentioned once but i didn't see it discussed much more. So my question is, do you have any guidelines for posting links to the sites you find on google alerts? Would you post on any site, or are you looking for sites that meet a certain standard?

** CJ - I set up a site for MMA and added CJ - UFC Store - but the images and links sucked compared to using Amazon -- I used a few other programs as well in other niches but I found Amazon was way better .. I don't even use CJ anymore waste of time for me anyway.

** Keywords - for some reason you guys seem to think buying keywords mean "buy" "reviews" -- this is not true - buying keywords means what people type in before they go onto buy something in a short space of time.

Let's face it how many people know the exact make and model of the wireless router they want to buy ?? Not many ..... they are looking for it based on some other search query ... so quit wasting your time on garbage and think about the niche you have selected and what characteristics would people search for within the niche in making a buying decision.

** Google Alerts has been a long time popular method to track down sites to try to post on.

** Sites - honestly I don't think anyone really cares if you make a crap website or a good website as long as it sells ::: however my opinion is if you are in this for 2-4 years - then you should be trying to deliver the best user experience possible - which requires better organization // better structure // better content // proper graphics and customization.

this comes with practice.

----> there are alot of ways to do Amazon -- not just the way I do it -- so figure out what works best for you and give it a try -- just remember that I can't answer questions about things I don't know the answer too -- but the good thing is we seem to be getting a wider variety of people now - so maybe they can answer your question better than I can.

Lastly everything you learn doing Amazon will help you in other areas of IM - so there is alot to be gained by giving it a shot .... cheers.

Has anyone got any experience or results about when clicking the amazon link to open in new window or open in same window. I know the idea is to get people to Amazon as soon as possible as their sales pages convert better so should we be closing our own site so the person stays on Amazon? Thanks

Well lets say that your audience are old grandmas. You want to use the KISS system : keep it simple stupid. The reason? you might lose them at any time if things are too much complicated.

If your audience are young gamers, then you can put some more ''techi'' stuff, such as jquery ect.

Of course, I'm talking more about the structure itself of the site, but you get the picture.

Regarding the design itself, it's about the same thing. It's not the most beautiful design that wins, but the design that gives your audience the best user experience possible. That's quite different.

That being said, it's all about testing. Do not be afraid to tweak your homepage a bit and note the bounce rate, average time onsite, clicks on amazon links, ect.

Internet marketing is all about testing when you're being serious.. And even marketing itself..

Hope this help

How well do bulky items with large shipping costs sell on Amazon? Like if I wanted to start a refrigerator reviewing website and link to a fridge on Amazon would people order it with a $100+ shipping charge or use the review to buy it at a local store instead?

I think people certainly shop online for the very reason it gets shipped to them - so I don't think that's a hindrance whatsoever.

Can I just make one comment too :: Seems we have been getting more and more comments by people - about what they have been told or what they read ....

honestly its so much better to experience it for yourself - and try to improve what you have -- than just rely on what other people sell you on.

That's one reason I made this thread - why pay someone to make you a cookie cutter site - that they know is never going to amount to much -- use your brain - build yourself a business - and increase your knowledge /// people that go that route are going to be in this for some time -- the others will give up and fade away .. imo.

All the best today with Sales.

After reading the 10th page, the only thing I dont get is:

When you create a website to promote Amazon products, do you target specific country where you will sell your products and put only aff links for that country... OR make every visitor follow affiliate URL to Amazon homepage?
