The Ultimate Amazon Thread Mark 2 - Q/A - Good/Bad

PM me your site and I'll take a quick look - I'm only here for 30-40 minutes though - as I'm leaving for the gym soon.

I was also thinking about general things :: what I don't understand is why people are choosing certain niches --> for example :

Why Choose Blu Ray Players When You Can Choose Things Like :

* Hedge Trimmers - when people search this sort of product - they want information / products / accessories and they buy
* Pool Pumps - again something people have to learn about to operate - they buy products and accessories
* Fire Pits - people want to search around find reviews/products and they need accessories
* Portable Generators - people need to know how to operate - what to buy - products and they need accessories
* Zero gravity chairs - people searching for those search for a reason
* Antique Bathroom Faucets - people upgrading their home are researching and color matching and looking for any encouragement to buy
* Paint Sprayers - people want to know whats good whats bad what to buy - they need accessories
* Hydration Packs - runners/hikers all need accessories for their sport - and want to know whats easy - also good for gifts at holiday times

I mean I just spent 3 minutes hunting around on Google/Amazon - there are so many great little niches to dominate and make money from - why waste your time with more mainstream products that people can get anywhere.

I looked at an example Site from user Alabama and he is on the right track - but he and others Sites I've looked at have to upgrade their attention to detail.

** You gotta have a Logo / Favicon

** You have to have Custom Buttons and Links -- basic buy now buttons from Amazon have been shown to convert very poorly .. forget inserting carousel widgets -- focus on text links and custom buttons and the occasional Image Link.

** You Gotta target Buying Smaller Keywords where your going to Rank 1 or 2 .... so you simply cannot target "Wireless Routers" and expect this traffic to buy products from your Site -- it will not convert ... you have to pick something that people searching for before they buy a product or accessory.

** When you have a theme you want to present your best things to the visitor so they can see them and access them -- having a site where every post scrolls down Blog Style just is not going to convert for you very well ... unless you have a review theme - where those are organized in tables etc.

** Things Like Dates on Sites - Latest Posts - this stuff has got to be changed to reflect what your trying to do.

There's lots of small crap like this that you have to get used to doing -- but what it does is - it makes your site convert a hell of alot better.

Anyway I'm sure you have heard enough from me today -- check back in tomorrow .. cheers.

((Also last thing I promise - don't put those crappy Amazon Banners at the Top of Your Site -- Don't make people click back to the search results because they are automatically thinking Spam/Ad Trap))

I want to say THANK YOU for help us !! I will change my sites following your recommendations and will post again if i see results

Well - there is quite a bit to clean up /// but probably overall more important in your case - is to find some buying keywords and target those.

Your targeting non specific words - that the traffic is not going to convert -- then add in all the other things and that's why you are suffering now.

Also remember you need to Rank 1 or 2 for the Keywords you choose - or your Sites will Fail -- its going to take 2-3 months after everything is changed to start getting Sales.

Cheers

This may not sound right .. As I'm typing it in but here it is :

my own sites and my clients sites that I follow similar Seo continue to rank extremely well .. Some of my sites traffic is down and some are up .. But this is normal for me .. Because I have a variety of sites :

BUT

this thread is no longer about me any more .. It's about the people taking action and what they are seeing in their traffic and earnings ... As my sites are much older .. So of course I'm less volatile than newer sites.

So don't worry about me ... Figure out what's going to help you earn more money and what strategies are suitable for you at this time of a new Google Update.

Maybe at the end of this month .. We can have an Amazon Check In.

People who get paid from Amazon ..

Just write something like : 5 Sites / seo, social / niche or authority / paid

or. 2 sites / social / niche or authority / banned

Just so people get a better read on people who are getting paid or banned.

2 sites / 1 micro niche with no seo about 2 months old got 30 dollars

1 nfl2011 thread inspired site - promoted this for about a week got about 100 dollars this month but I had to pull the plug within about a week after it was made as the number of clicks vs sales was diluting my conversion rate to less than 3% and I have read that once amz see ur % get less than 1 they might ban you so I could have made more this way but decided not to risk getting my account banned - in this for the long run.

one annoying thing this month is I got to make 1 more sale to get to next fee level lol with only 4 days left in month im hoping for at least more sale.

I have 4 micro and 1 authority sites nearly set to roll then I'm gonna use this months amaz money to purchase something like magic submitter to start doing some proper seo/back linking to the sites.

What is the oldest domain of yours and What is the longest time do you able to maintain ranking?

I ask this because from my experience and what I read, nowadays it seems like sites have shorter "life span" of getting traffic from Google, except you are purely white hat.

Just wait for the payments to come through at month end first.

I've talked about this before : but on Page 1 for my terms - are alot of properties I've built / PDF / PR / Articles type stuff - so I get traffic from those who may not go direct to the URL.

My oldest domain is a medical one - its been about 2.5 years I guess and makes money every month -- because there is constant need for the products it has on it.

EMD Update had the biggest impact on me when it hit initially - the other ones had little effect really.

Could you expound more on buying keywords, danny? It seems i wasted some $$ on buying keywords on the BST section because they werent that targeted. i.e "wireless router". Should it be "buy wireless router" or "cheap wireless router?" thanks again for the inputs! :)

Stumble on an interesting article today.

http://www.nichepursuits.com/when-seo-rules-dont-apply-ecommerce-sites-and-other-anomalies/
(The blog is owned by the same owner of Long Tail Pro, so the content revolves around that, but still the points apply to any keyword tool. It's a strategy and concept.)

In short, it says that even if a keyword has every indication of low competition in SERPs, don't pick it if the SERPs mainly contain big ecommerce sites like Amazon, Target, eBay. Use the signals Google gives us to determine if Google has preferences over specific types of sites.

If mixed results, has forums, blogs, and other informational sites.. or pure informational sites, then use usual indications for research.

I have to agree this is true. E-commerce terms are harder to rank. Of course, I might be wrong, so if you have any experience, please do share.

We discussed this earlier .. but your wasting your time targeting general terms like "wireless routers"

you have to identify smaller niches you can rank for --- "Best Gaming Wireless Routers" "Small Business Wireless Routers" "Secure Wireless Routers" ---> I'm just making these up -- but you have to find small areas you can dominate -- and focus the traffic so that people searching the term are buyers.

so this is why I'm so surprised people have so much trouble picking niches / products -- you can virtually pick anything if you focus the traffic to buying .. but obviously why do electronics or these $20 products that alot of people are choosing -- you just won't make money with those.

My point is, a lot of keywords fall into the e-commerce terms category. I'm not talking about general terms like "wireless routers". A lot of them are more specific.

This becomes very relevant as what you refer to as "buying keywords" are often also dominated by big e-commerce sites.

Ex: gaming wireless routers are buying keywords, but "<brand> gaming wireless routers", which I think you'll agree are even better keywords... but the latter is most likely dominated by all e-commerce sites.

What I'm trying to say is I can rely on any keyword tool anymore, no matter how good all the competitive indications are. It's a must to take a look at the SERP and see if there are forums, other affiliate sites, etc. that are easier to conquer.

The problem with this type of keywords is, even though all indications say it is easy to rank, Google seems to make exceptions and only choose sites selling that product.

Of course, I hope I'm wrong. I hope I can only look at all competition factor, but it isn't anymore.

My experience seems to be the same as the article I posted above.

Or do you able to conquer those keywords with your SEO strategy?

I'm not sure how many times I have said it but : Keyword Tools are not 100% correct - what you have to do is try a site - figure out the stats and then adjust what you search for based on real life - not some expectation. That also depends on competition .. I think I have made these 2 things pretty clear in the thread. My personal opinion is because the target is narrow and not general - in general competition then Im sure it is more accurate. (( I think we agree here ))

I never compete based on brand names.

Bigger Sites from my experience since I started this are never a problem in the smaller search terms .. but I'm sure there are examples where it didn't work out - there always are because what we do is never 100%.

In 90 % of the cases I can rank for what I want to rank for -- sometimes though it turns out it wasn't worth it - sometimes you hit a goldmine -- again its not 100% guaranteed.

Overall like I said for every success you can document a failure -- when I look at something I look at it as a challenge - I don't automatically assume its impossible and never try.

Also I don't care what other people say/do - because they can use a Site that sucks / Content that sucks / use a short time frame / not target terms like I target / No customization -- there are alot of reasons why results vary....... but for me I've ranked FSB / I've ranked Autoblogs and I've ranked these more Content Based Sites -- so I have a pretty good idea how to get it done.

Cheers

Congratulation, managing 75 sites is no joke, something is missing, how much $$ do you receive? something like $4k, $6k is good enough.

Hi Danny, please tell me how much you earn a month? I need that number to inspire me when I put my foot in this venture.
