Ok ... I think we have come to a point where all the information needed to do Amazon as far as niche type sites go is contained in the thread.
Maybe it's time we switch to more problem solving and discuss what is working or you and what's not ... Because I'm sure it doesn't help to just listen to me ramble on every couple of days.
So lets try this....... Please reply in the thread with an answer that applies to you.
1. Do you feel You so far have been successful or unsuccessful. ... If successful what is one thing you think every needs to know or what factor is most important to your success .. If your unsuccessful .. What do you think is your biggest problem?
2. On average how much is it costing you to make one site ?
3. Now you have done one site how long do you think it will take to make a second site ?
4. What is your favorite software to use with Amazon ?
5. Has it been easy or hard to get good rankings ?

Well, i'll give it a go.
Started one site at the end of february. I still consider myself as a beginner when it comes to amazon.
1. I think i've been successfull up to now. I think I've had success because I treat the my site as a business. It looks pro and clean. No shitty flickering banners. It's all clean stuff with nice design and graphic. After that, Content is meant for the users and the users only. I've put some nice customised charts in my articles to compare different products. This alone helps my average time onsite which I believe helps my SEO a lot. I put a lot of focus on content quality too. Earning for april arent bad, its climbing fast every month. I'm closing April at 215$ from one site.
2. This site costed me 500$ up to now.
3. As soon as I breack even (probably next month). I'll start a new one. I already have my niche in mind.
4. I dont use any software.
5. Pretty easy. Havent done much SEO. I'm now at 400-500 visitors per day.
6. Being smooth on SEO. Its more and more about user's experience. People should focus on that in my opinion. Also, people should eb aware that the small site model isnt for everyone. I'm building myself an authority site.
7. I didnt receive any payment yet, should come soon.
I think thats pretty much all I had to say.

Thank You for Participating .. I'll wait a few days till we hopefully get 10 or more answers and then try to make some suggestions/comments/discussion ... Also keep in mind I focus on smaller sites so some of the things may not apply to 100% of people... because my impression is more people are liking the idea of larger sites.
Please anyone who is having trouble - we want to hear from you too - so everyone can at least own a profitable business - even it its not $1500 + a month -- but I think an achievable goal for everyone should be $600 a month..... Ok I'll leave it up to you guys and we can discuss further in a few days .. cheers.

Ok, I'd like to go next
I started a site end of Feb.
1. I consider it's successful so far. One thing I think very important is to find the right balance of content, text link, image, button to boost your click through rate. I have like 40-60% click through rate to Amazon.
2. So far, I have spent about $600
3. I'm making the second site right now as I have gained back my investment and make some profit.
4. I don't use any software
5. It's a mixture. Sometimes you just know it when you hit the right keyword and within 1-2 weeks you get decent traffic. Some keywords just don't fly. I'm building a larger site, btw.
6. This is not an exact science so don't count number of word in your article, how many articles I should write, how much traffic I get? It all comes down to whether you, as a user, think that your site is useful. Like Danny already mentioned, you will find yourself making sales in circle. Sometimes conversion is good, sometimes is bad.
7. I'm waiting for my Payoneer card and should receive it soon.

I could rank in the top5 because there is only like 1 or 2 authority sites ranking for the keywords , the other onces are e-commerce websites with very think reviews (3 or 2 lines of content) or price comparison websites with even thinner content.

I have some questions but one that was triggered by the 1..7 recently asked.
Specifically

Can you guys/gals give a bit more of a breakdown on cost? What is the biggest outlay, seems expensive, especially for those starting out with a limited budget. Granted $500-$600 for a site that might return you that much each month is small, but it might be useful for other members to see where they can economize (where possible). As a side note, it's also good practice to assign yourself an hourly rate. $600 may or may not be a lot to some, but if you also spent 3 month working 24/7, that paints a different picture.
And if anyone has time, what on reflection was the best cost/benefit within the overall budget.

So if you feel that you can write everything yourself, then you'll cut the cost if you follow my model. I personally dont write because I suck and that my actual writer is a rockstar when it comes to my niche. That way, it gives a better user experience. The only SEO that i've done was some manual bookmarks.

Yeah, I think this is good question.
Out of $600 I spent, about 70% are for content. If you can write yourself then you don't have to spend this money. I just don't like writing and I may not ever finish if I do it myself
I also spend some money on link building, which can be do manually too. So basically, what you really need to spend to get things rolling is design + domain + hosting.

Seo I can buy articles or scrape articles and rewrite for web 2 .. So that's $30 or zero plus captcha costs .... So my investment is time more than anything.

Some excellent replies, I've used the thanks button, but sometimes that is not enough.
The answers are encouraging for those starting out, once you've become an old hand, then outsourcing those labor intensive tasks, is the best way to scale it up.

I remember reading that Amazon changed their fees structure, basically increasing the cost to their sellers, has that reduced your % take in any significant way?

I do most of my content myself so that's why I didn't list it - I have bought PLR and Content before - but I know how they are written now - so I don't need to spend anything... unless I'm lazy.
If I did I would just buy 5 general articles - and that's $30 ..... but this area depends on the type of Site you want -- So its not fair to compare what I have to what other people are doing - which is why I asked the question. (reviews I would write myself)

Hi,
I am re-reading the thread and noticed you mentioned the NFL2011 thread and that you were not getting results.
Your method was to target $1500 to make it worthwhile and not $50 products.
I targeted the $50 products and although commissions were poor i made about $150 in commission over the past 2 weeks ($2500 sales).
To be honest though the time spent targeting (ahem, spamming, lol) the ad sites vs the return commission wasnt really worth it,
the reason i mention it though and on this thread is because maybe if some ppl starting out dont have much capital but have time on their hands its a good way
to learn how amazon commission works (setting up account, placing links etc) it also provides money that can be used in future for their review sites (hosting, domain etc)
and although its a short term idea - the confidence boost you will get from signing into your amz affiliate account each day tracking sales etc will motivate you even more
to follow dannys methods and long term money making idea.
Ps. just dont forget to make a landing page for you products (again getting good practice at amz linking/product image placement etc) and dont place the amz links directly onto the ad pages.

Yeah that NFL method is a good idea - but you need alot of custom work - and I couldn't be bothered with Buying All The Software Accounts and Proxies for $50 Products

So my question is what would be the structure of your website content wise knowing that is based on a long tail keyword.
For the long tail keyword you do one specific product or does it allow you to do more products related to that keyword+ accessories?
In case of one product do you do one review for that product and the rest are articles related to that product and linked to the reviewed page?
