Thought I would share a HARO hack that would be useful to users who find it hard to find the time to check the emails everyday for opportunities here is what you will need

A Gmail account

A Slack Account

Step 1:

Create a new slack channel for HARO and follow this guide to create an email address for this channel.

Step 2:

List out a bunch of trigger words ie Automotive, Cars, Vehicles

Step 3:

Either create a new gmail account or use an existing account and make sure all your HARO emails and getting sent here.

Step 4:

Using your trigger words you should create filters in Gmail. See attached image

Step 5:

Now using the slack email address forward the email to slack if the trigger word is within the body of the email.

Tips: Add labels using the keyword name to help identify what keyword is within the HARO email.

Make sure the emails go into the primary inbox this way the primary tab only contains opportunities.

Step 6: Repeat this step for all your trigger words

You are all set, each time a HARO gets sent that contains a Keyword you are tracking Slack will get a notification. All you need to do is check the labels on the email and do a quick Control find using the trigger word to find the opportunity.

Other tips:

You can also uses the OR operator if your keyword has multiple versions ie

“Car” OR “Cars”

I think this strategy is best for specialist niche campaigns such as ours which is automotive, I think popular niches might trigger most HARO emails.

Make sure the HARO emails that trigger your keywords land in the primary tab as I think on my setup HARO defaults to the Updates tab. This way all the no-relevant HAROs are hidden out of sight, leaving you with all the goodness to review.

Nice method, I would prefer just to stick them all in a single labeled folder in my Gmail called haro, and have a bell notification ring every time one lands there (custom sound). But it's certainly a great idea to use slack if you want your team to get access to decision-making and promotion. Cheers.

Very useful! I have been lazy about HARO, but often get good links from there and they are practically free with a little bit of work involved. The hardest part (me being lazy) is to search my inbox everyday with my keywords. This is a great way to get notifications right away. Good job and thank you!

Great guide, thanks!

A neat guide.

Interestingly, HARO is something I haven't spend much time in. Yet to acquire even a link through the method. But I already get the mails delivered in my Gmail. Would use this method to sort and file them out.

misleading title, I thought this is a guide on how to trick the reporters to choose your pitch over others
this is just a guide on how to organize the queries. for haro pitchers, an organized email box is the least of our concerns.
been doing haro since 2018. it used to be a waste of time but I did get those occasional gold backlinks here and there.
if you thought back in 2018 haro was a waste of time, try it now
all sources are shit
all queries are shit ("tell me about vagina smell" "tell me about a time when you were upset because someone used the wrong pronoun")
I have submitted 100 pitches this year. guess how many backlinks I got? 0
guess how many of these bastard reporters at least acknowledged that they received my shit? 0
oh yeah, one of them did respond but she wanted to do an interview over the phone. hell no. she wants to waste 30 minutes of my time and then give me a da 5 nofollow backlink?
well anyway, I digress, you title was misleading and your post is useless. not trying to be an asshole, just telling the truth.

What exactly is this Haro used for? I‘m lost here, can somebody please explain?
