There's no right or wrong answer. The answer is whatever works best for your specific needs after testing. But the point is to actually TEST. Not try something one time and act like it can't be highly beneficial (which it can cause I've been doing it 2+ years).

This guide was clearly written for people who don't own the software.

If you do own the software (and have actually used it), it's as useful as Websters would be for learning English. I don't give a fuck about definitions. I care about unique strategies, styles and execution. Where people employ different approaches to rank, then compare results. Or the different tuts that have been done on scraping, cleaning and using lists.

This guide was clearly written for people who don't own the software.

The funny part is if you actually read the the guide which you've linked to (which is broken btw) you'll see that they have referred to this guys blog in the tutorial section which means GSA wants you to read the guide.
