Ok guys, I just put the finishing touches on something called vApps at one of my sites called Tweetborder. vApps allows you to put a custom "from" line with a custom link on every tweet. You know the part of every tweet that says "posted 23 minutes ago from web"? Well how about "posted 23 minutes ago from http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackhat-seo/#". These go on every tweet posted through your vApps, and you can create as many different custom from lines as you want. The link can take users anywhere you want, and the target can be changed on the fly at any time. Each custom from line can only be registered at Twitter by 1 person - meaning you need to get the ones you want before everyone starts doing this.

This way, you can post any non-spammy messages you want and every single one still has your custom linked text. As you may know, twitter's been ban-happy recently, and a big factor in that is how many links you're posting. This does not affect that number, and it looks more like something Twitter put there as an ad. Clickthrough rates on this are very high, in part because people aren't yet sure what to make of it. If you've seen "X minutes ago from Click Here to See Me Naked" that was me testing :). Another cool thing is that you can change the text AFTER you post tweets - you just change your application name at twitter and it's instantly updated across all past tweets.

In a couple of days we are releasing a version of Super Duper Auto Tweeter that can post through your vApps instead of directly through the API - meaning you can post to an unlimited number of accounts really quickly and have every tweet bear your custom linked text.

It's free for now, but we're probably going paid in a couple of days. The people who sign up before we go paid will be able to keep their free accounts for at least 60 days from the time we do it before we drop the free accounts. BTW, I'm well aware that the interface could look better. Right now we're just busy building functions. One of these days we'll put some lipstick on it :).

Anyway, here's the URL if you're interested:

    Code:
    http://www.tweetborder.com

Installing the app on your profiles is the biggest pain, since you have to do it one by one. I actually have a software tool that I wrote to install the apps automagically (I had to install on several thousand profiles) but it's not quite ready for primetime use yet. Almost though. Will post when ready.

That was you? lol I saw it on twitter and was wondering how you did it. I've been researching on how to do it myself, but now I don't have to. ;)

So, I can use this with any tweet sent through Tweet border?

I'm asking because I use twitterfeed which automatically tweets
for me. Will tweetborder only work when manually tweeted through
    the software.

Also, what about re-tweets that I make?

    Thanks,

    -Xenoz

Right. I don't mind entering tweets manually, that's not a problem.
I just want to make certain my accounts aren't banned for using
this software. Just want to make certain I am understanding this
    right:

Any tweet I submit via TweetBorder will have my [------]
ad listed over my Twitter name.

And, it doesn't piss off twitter or violate their TOS.

Just some clarification before I subscribe. Anyone else who's used
    TweetBorder input wold be appreciated.

Can I use Tweetborder with Seesmic, and still have my ads [------]
    masked with my ads?

this has to be an API tweak for twitter. it can be that hard to code on your own.

Creating a separate OAuth-based application for each unique set of text (your ad) is the only way to create custom linked text on a tweet. That's what TweetBorder's vApps service essentially does. Yes, you are technically correct that you can write and register your own apps, but to say that Twitter's half-baked Oauth implementation is difficult to work with would be an understatement.

There's a saying among IT pros about Linux:

"Linux is only free if your time is worth nothing"

Same goes here. The BHW rate (PM me to get it) is $50 for a year of TweetBorder service, which includes unlimited unique OAuth apps. If you look at how much of your time $50 would buy, and compare it to the amount of time it would take you to write a new Oauth application for each custom ad you want to write, I'm guessing you come out way ahead by using Tweetborder.

BTW, another very cool thing about using TweetBorder is that your ad can be up to 240 characters in length - 100 more characters than any tweet - and the whole thing is linked where you want it to go. There is no other way to get that much screen real estate at Twitter.

We did offer Tweetborder for free for quite a while, told everybody we were going paid, and then we did.
