Ok, so I saw the iPad announcement and went to check out domain names.
I found a really cool one and bought it...

(let me preface everything by saying ... I know I am an idiot... you think I would have learned after the michael jackson fiasco :P)



I have never done forums.
And, I have not seen anything (after a brief search) here about monetizing and seo'ing them.

Any guidance would be lovely
... even General how to run a forum advice would be welcome!

I also got lucky as hell ( I think) and was able to purchase 3 short name domains with "Ipad" in it. Now I just got to monetize them quickly.
I threw up some adsense sites real quick and now i am getting them indexed. But I am trying to figure out the best way to monetize.

Pirate, I like your idea about the forum. I have one myself,and I use IPB, It's pretty simple to work with in my opinion.
Anyone good at monetizing? Shoot me a p.m. or post :)
 
wow... all you have is a bunch of crap domains and you are thinking about monetizing them?

First build a site around them, gather up some thousand visitors per day and THEN think about earning a buck or two
Why do people always think that money falls from the sky?
 
Takes a little bit of work but it can be done and is more or less profitable if done correctly.

i bought a couple of good ones as well.

advice for the forum. setup the forum and register about 20 ghost users, then start posting in their names. If you are as lazy as me go to getafreelancer.com and hire someone to do the posting for you. Fresh content will drive more traffic and visitor to your site. Once users start visiting, registering an posting, you can start thinking about adsense, affiliate, etc.

easy peasy lemon squeezy!

You could have a domain called jackoffjill.com and you could still rank as high as a keryworded domain if you know what you are doing so buying these domains is actually kind of pointless.

Buying keyword domains with anything related to Apple trademarks is just going to end in disappoint. You will get a C&D and they will get the domain off you.

There was a recent story about a guy (cant remember where I read it) who owned macbookpro.com etc and lost about 10 similar domains.

If you've got a more generic term thats not related to a brand you'll be okay, but if not, flip it to some moron who thinks its amazing lol
 
It's owned by the moderator OldenStyleHats and is for sale in the B/S/T section - hence no-one will share it. Have a look. Apparantly it is amazing!

Just found this thread - I have started another thread elsewhere on the forum about the exact same thing. (whoops)

I have some pretty good Ipad domains too and don't know where to start.

I don't have a great deal of time but I do have SENuke and some other tools to me disposal.

Should I just stick some content on their promote the site with SENuke and add some adsense?

That has to be up there in the stupidest thing i have heard this year.:)

I know its only been a month, but it will be in the top ten of this year for sure.

Domain is very very very important. Ohh sorry i missed out a very. Very very very very important. I don't mean to flame. I am sure i don't have to explain myself on that one.
 
1.Register a lot of fake people.
2.Run competitions, it must be really easy to win and you must pay them too.
3.No advertisement on the forum until it becomes active
4.Make your forum visible to everyone.
5.Technology forums need to have a appealing design and a very good flow.
6.Make sure you stay there as much as possible a forum without the admin will neve grow into a community..

Monetizing forums is not through ads but through membership

Yeah, I have to spend more time over in the DNS list. It's fascinating. :rolleyes:

I usually just hang out in the "My Favorite Church Sermon" area, or the "Is It OK To Hold Hands On The First Date" forum.
