why is it so hard to refill an ice tray without turning the kitchen floor into a swimming pool? i'm convinced it's impossible to walk from the sink to the freezer without atleast one spill. are we just living with wet socks, or is there a secret techniques i'm missing. :)

The secret technique is to have an icemaker in your freezer.

Just dont fill it up all the way, I just do it 3 quarters of the way up and walk like a granny until I reach the freezer

Leave the try in the freezer, refill it with a cup of water.

Bring a pitcher of water to the freezer (and possibly a funnel as well), position ice tray near edge of freezer, fill tray with water, push tray gently into the depths of the freezer and wait patiently for ice. No carrying across the room or spilling necessary!

Simple
Don't fill it to the brim

You need to have a drink beforehand so your hands are more steady!
