Almost every single niche has some type of how to guide. How to install this, how to use this, etc etc. Google your niche how to guide. Look at the top few results. What you need to do is create a how to page better than those ones. Take some really high quality pictures, or hire a cheap graphic artist, hire a writer, whatever you need to do to make it look great.
Next you make a list of the top 10-20 sites that are ranking for your how to guide, or as many as you can find. If you don't have an ahrefs account, there are people are fiverr that will do back link profiles for you for $5 for 5-10 URLs. Get all the backlinks that link to any of these guides, even the wikipedia links as well.
Finally, you email every single one of them individually, not this mass spam garbage. Personalize it, tell them you came across their post and saw they linked to xxxx how to guide, tell them you also really liked their other post on yyyyyy. Little things like that, makes it like you actually care about their site, but not too cheesy. Tell them about your guide and how it's even better than the one they linked to. Tell them you're just starting your site and trying to put the best quality content possible out there and how their readers would also benefit from your guide.

And if you ever do add in some black/grey hat it makes your site look less suspicious if you have a bunch of white hat links. I have, on infinite number of times, used "how to" + my question in G and have found a readymade solutions quickly. May be this (How to + yourQuestion) will always be an evergreen topic as the solution changes with time and new, better, and easier solutions to both the old and new questions are always sought after from all parts of the world. For every niche and its sub niches, a How To tutorial will always be warmly welcome by the users of those niches.
