Has anyone seen?

Watching now. It is about the Cambridge Analytica scandal.

Quite amazing how data is all around us. It is there to be harvested.

And it is worth trillions.

Haven't seen it, but definitely will now after watching the trailer. I did watch this documentary which is an undercover meeting with some people from their firm. I mean we all knew they did it, but seeing it in action is kind of scary.

Started watching it he other night. It's petty interesting. Will finish the rest soon but super busy. Scary to think our data is worth so much.

It's in my queue already. Thanks for the recommendation, I'll bump it up and watch it next once I finish "The Boys" on Amazon.

It is amazing. Worth a watch. Yes , it has it all in the film.

Haven't heard of it until now; will be watching it!

Well worth the watch.

Data in the cyber world amazes me.

Makes me tingle, to think we fuck about with Amazon affiliate stores when really we should be working on and with data.

Data runs the world.

Crazy to imagine they had five thousand points of data on each person.

We got our movie for the weekend. Thanks!

No probs.

I will admit, it is a little boring towards the end. But from a marketing perspective, it is quite amazing the level of innovation reached.

I really want to watch it, but I'm balls deep in 'La Casa De Papel', and I can't pull out until it's finished.

Stop whatever series you're watching and just give it a watch. It's one sitting of around 2 hours but it's worth it 100%

Throwing myself out there - but could someone explain what data was actually leaked, and how it was used?

There's too much fluff going on, and being a programmer myself, I still can't understand what type of data that can be this sensitive.

My understanding from it is that they got a bunch of data (e.g likes of pages of users) from Facebook.
They then mapped this towards data of a source they knew was the target (e.g what kind of pages Trump-voters like)

And they just create lookalike audiences based on this.

If that being the case - this entire thing is in my opinion overhyped by throwing scary words around making people think FB was hacked.

I even remember doing the exact same thing when you could scrape top fans of pages, upload them as custom audience and create a lookalike based on that.

Could somebody correct me please?

. Scary to think our data is worth so much.

And the other day at the supermarket there were some young employees of a third party company asking for my purchase ticket.

I didn't give it to them, they wanted it for free of course. I would have no problem giving it to, for example, a group of students. But do you know how valuable it is for a marketing company to have this kind of data? And these for-profit companies want to have it for free? Nope, not from me. At least Facebook and google give us something in return.

Nope ! I had not even heard about it but Thanks I will definitely watch this one . Have you or anyone seen “Scorpion” on Netflix ?

Watched it the other day. I agree, it did feel a little repetitive near the end but very intriguing from a marketing perspective.

Watched it just now while having dinner.

Interesting some of the people involved. When people are spending $1m a day just on FB, it tells you the scale of this.

Personally my thoughts are Brittany Kaiser jumped ship to save her own skin then turned whistleblower, but it was the guy with the pink hair who was one of the main people who helped uncover their workings.

Interesting just seen this article;

Just finished watching it. I found the movie rather cringey at times, but it does convey a powerful message. The movie is propaganda material, as much as it is informational, but that shouldn't surprise anyone. It was interesting to hear some facts, but not worth the 2h watch, in my opinion. At the end of the day, no one got sentenced and business continues as usual.
