The Ebola Google Update [October 2014]

Analytics is a lightning rod for penalties. Google uses it to track people. Now they're phoning back to google too so they know exactly who you are if you're logged in.

Analytics is not responsible for anything. Webmasters and their tactics are.

i havent touched a site i own for 4 months... once this bugger rolled out... got chopped in half

Hi!

Im new to SEO really and honestly im kind of lost...The thing is that one of my websites got hit by Penguin this last friday / saturday and move from the 3th position in my main KW to #149 according to serpbook. So I in fact disavowed some domains and links that were bad, using Link detox in order to identify them (if that's even a good tool, not 100% sure)...That was 1 week ago of course and things are not getting any better, if anything my kw position is slowly moving farther and farther away, at least 1 to 3 places a day...

So what to do here? Should I start creating new and better quality backlinks? Or just give the site up and create a new one?
Is there anyway a website in this situation can be recovered?

... the googlebot will pick up the stats from the statistics log that your host provides.

This sounds fantastic, although I can't think of any stats that can be read from the outside, as they are usually (standard Apache and IIS installations) not even stored within the web server directories... what do you mean with "log that your host provides"?

70% backlinks from forum and guestbooks, it would be reasonable to sense something is afoot. I don't think it's the end of link blasting, but this coupled with the death of Pagerank.

sorry but you can't call think RANK in any way.you have no sites ranked above.rank=1-3 first page of google search.pos #30 or pos # 500 is the same

Are You kidding??
I have enough sites in top3 with SER use, they are just NOT MOVED from their positions after the update - the FOCUS here is how Penguin3 has A POSITIVE EFFECT on some SERed sites, so these are examples about that.

As I was reading this thread it dawned on me that you are VERY LIKELY onto something with Google using our data against us. You see, my site got hit pretty badly... in the last week, I've also been helping a friend up his street dance studio site (local business in Australia). All I did was install analytics, and build a few local directory links... and now all the keywords are not even in the top 50 whereas they were in the 20's-30's before (and higher locally).

Wow Google... I can't swear because I'm new here but I am extremely enraged by this, what a way to lose any shred of trust I had left.

Dude, your shitty directory links were the cause. The ebola is in the directory links, not analytics.

This shit is still going. Yesterday, a 80 pages site was completely de-indexed. No links were built at all.

The other hand there are some that say SER is good at only neg seo nowadays. I`d say things are a lot more complex than the quality of your backlinks.
