The duplicate content myth

adsense banns duplicate content, SEO is affected.

How do you explain article websites thriving?
Everyone submits the same article to multiple article websites...

Google will penalize you only if you have the same content in multiple pages on one site.

What about tag pages?

I have been indexed in google for tag pages, which I guess is the same as duplicate content - yes?

I see a drop in indexed tag pages in google over time, but would this suggest that you don't use tags in your blogs?

well I think its a lie or at least half lie, cause well long story short I just did a search @ google for this http://www.nytimes.com/2009/02/25/us/politics/25obama.html?_r=1&hp, it new stuff and then did a search for part of the title "Obama Assures Nation: " if you see, the first ones are the ones from nytimes, but all of the other ones are from blogs and pages using rss feeds or stuff to gather the stuff..
so for the thing about not getting your pages indexed I guess its pretty self explanatory.
thinking outside the box for a sec. I can dare to say and being optimistic, that about 30% or less that is actually 'in' the net is original content and all of the other stuff is either an exact copy of the original material or an 'optimized' version, so if google decided to take all that sh*t out of their results or penalize them, they would not be the monster they are right now.
I could be wrong though, I am not a guru nor I dont work @ google, just my thoughts.

I've got a site that I just copy and paste articles from articlebase and a few others. I include the link to the author and back to the article site. I rank at the top for some tough keywords (without in page SEO, all by accident). So I don't put much into the duplicate content

@Rooro I like what you said. In fact, I totally agree and know that the DUPE Content myth is B.S. BUT,,,I will even go so far to say, that it dose pay to refer your content source...this will CYA so to speak, and free you up to get on with it to do whatever you need to do with article sources...Also, just like to mention the reference link to the source needs NOT be hotlinked! peace out

Why not post your opinion in the many other 'lets end the dupe content myth once and for all' threads?

And just b/c there is [seemingly] no dupe content penalty, doesn't mean a bunch of PLR articles on a high paying niche are going to be very effective on their own accord.

I agree, some PLR articles in and of themselves is not a whole lot to whoop and holler about. That particular niche is so saturated as to be mindnumbing. Good luck..would love to see you have good results though I believe in that niche a more robust mount then a 'few' will be necessary as well as other efforts.
