Ok guys lets fu** the duplicate content myth right here right now so that no more threads crop up.........

IMO duplicate content is not really bad for your site, If you add pics and videos related to it and add value to your site you will have returning visitors and also if less than 200 sites use the same content then google does not penalise any one site but they sure do give preference to old sites with quality backlinks

Over to you blackhatworld....whats your opinion

widened your copied content and don't stick to one site or domain..... gets you to rank even higher
 
I believe (like you sad) that when you ad value to the content like images and video and maybe some extra content like comments are editorial notes, you will even outrank the original source.

There is no such thing as a dup content penalty, i have a lot of old adult blogs that run on RSS feeds only, i adapted the template somewhat added what text and i even outrank some high rollers like some known porn review sites for some nice traffic keywords.

Don't get caught up in the dup content myth
 
when the AP writes a story you have hundreds of news sites pick up the story, and the story still gets indexed in Google... so there you have it.
 
alright guys, on my way to getting some free plr content on finance which is a very high paying keyword for adsense

Why not post your opinion in the many other 'lets end the dupe content myth once and for all' threads?

And just b/c there is [seemingly] no dupe content penalty, doesn't mean a bunch of PLR articles on a high paying niche are going to be very effective on their own accord.
 
IMHO, it's more of a duplicate content "lack of reward" than a duplicate content "penalty".
 
many of top sites out there has duplicate content...ezine articles, news website,social bookmarking and so on...so i really dont believe in dupl cont penalty...im also has a few landing pages that copy exactly content in the merchant site(logo,articles,picture etc) + meta tags and still stay in front page of google for targeted keyword...
 
Dupe content = Competition from the other dupes out there. That is the perhaps the only penalty.
 
i agree with bozo, I mentioned above that we need to add value to dupe content
 
When we release a product we write up our own reviews for affiliates to post on their site. Those duplicate reviews show up on the first page of the engines everywhere. Don't worry about duplicate content, however don't create duplicate sites.

If duplicate content isn't an issue, why do people get articles re-written?
Is it only to avoid detection (though copyscape.com et al) and thus lawsuits?

Yes and the gurus need the myth so that they can SELL you stuff. Like article rewriters plug-ins and crazy shit like that.

The gurus actually invented that myth By taking Snipets of what google has said and twisting it around. Then posting the twisted truth around as straight truth. So that they can make there money.

So instead of believing in dupe myth . just send your local GURU some cold hard cash . As that is all you would be doing anyway.

As far as I can tell:

Duplicate content penalty only applies to your own site.. Having the same articles on your site.

Outside of that-- it's all about backlinks.. I have stolen peoples work and ranked higher than them.. WHY? Because I had better backlinks...

The only thing you have to watch out for is the author complaining. It happens from time to time.. Remove their shit and go grab some more.

Lol sure . I just proved it once again . I got a bunch of articles a couple days ago from article directories with the keywords the guru assassin scam . While it is not a very competitive niche alot of people are trying there darndest to rank for it .

I am on page one right now WELL above the original article sources. Actually well above those who have unique content as well . HOHOHO . Hehe . Yeah i did that in under a week .

Using Pligg and PR storm - Use them both very carefully. These 2 can have a revers effect if you go hog wild .

I am right now sliding in and out of the 1st page for the guru assassin . I mean good lord it is a straight battle going on for this keyword. I am serious I never seen so many sites go in and out of first place so fast before.

I am doing it all as an experiment as I know with all the traffic i am getting some of those fools are buyers . But yet I am not seeing anything on CB account . Just alot of hops *I did something naughty on that webpage :)

But you get the picture . No unique content plus some backlinks = High rank in a competitive keyword.

BTW anyone have any IDEA why this keyword is so competitive it is not really searched for.
 
I copied Wikipedia, exactly word for word and page for page. Lets ask Google what he thinks....

I'm also beating Wiki for a lot of their own content, i've also got over 80 "authority" listings that i know of. I don't mean sitelinks, i'm talking about when you search things like "Density of Oxygen" and they show the formula in the SERP's with "According to mydomain.com"

I have them for things like heights of mountains, formulas, timezones etc.

When i first started optimizing AltaVista was the big player, and in all this time i've never had a problem with dupe content.
