This is a pretty old thread, but still mostly valid. I would change three things here.
1. Don't get a keyword for a domain. Google despises them. Try to come up with a brand name and promote that. Google loves brands.
2. If you're going local, make sure you purchase the domain locally and also the hosting. For example, if you're trying to rank for UK only, grab a .co.uk domain from a UK based seller and also buy your hosting from a UK based company.
3. Making only a blog isn't a good idea now. Go for a normal website with a home page, several other pages with pages under them and a blog. I would like to suggest you put a lot of thought into the actual architecture of your website. Keep it tidy and Google will love it.
Backlink wise, don't get any in the first month, just share your site and posts on social media. After that try and not spam. Moderation is king!
