One of the biggest things I'm seeing right now is the lack of commitment to the on-page efforts.
Titles, tags, metas, header/footer, sitemaps....it can all be very time consuming and overwhelming, but it's crucial. So build your site correctly the first time, and it will save you from having tons of headache in the future.

MOBILE - when is the last time you actually looked at your own site from your phone?
Simple changes can have a profound effect on your CTR's and time on site.
Do this often, as automated site updates can really mess things up.

Who do you recommend for WP sitemaps? I have Yeost and added Google XML Sitemaps. I added Google becuase I can not see the sitemap option in the Yeost panel. But now I get an error from Yeost saying having two sitemap plugins can be bad. Can it?

No need for 2 sitemaps.
Google XML is best to directly integrate into Webmaster tools
 
As someone who has prior 0 knowledge to all of this it didn't take me that long to understand what to do and how to earn from it thank you so much for the guide!

Making a website is not a big deal now, especially when platforms like WordPress are there, you just need to buy some good hosting provider so that your website keeps up and running even in conditions when there is a lot of traffic to cater. A major deal is to design a website but that thing is no longer an issue as one can easily apply WordPress theme and can set up a website in just 15 minutes. By the way thanks for nice guideline
