I use Long Tail Pro Platinum and Semrush combination nowadays. These two are the best ones nowadays IMHO. However, they are both quite expensive. If you are on a budget, even Google Keyword Planner and uber suggest combination is good if you have got the time and patience.

Sometimes what you need is a good niche. I find niches from reading the news, from watching a video and so forth. Niches are everywhere if you open your eyes.

Once you've found a niche you use that as a base for your keywords.

As for keyword research tools. Google keyword planner is your best bet. One of the best ways I can gauge keyword competitiveness without much analysis or even using backlink software is to set up youtube videos for my keyword. If any of them show up on the first page to third page then there's a high probability that it's a low competition keyword worth my attention. I found a bunch of local gems this way.

I take no credit for this strategy as I learned it from a random webinar that I attended. For the lazy like me it gives me a quick insight on how easy a keyword is. And I like easy keywords.
