Thanks a lot, Google!

No brother. I only have 13 backlinks in total. All gained naturally due to having super high quality content. Some were from legit blogs and some were from niche related forums.
Are you kidding . 13 backlink is a joke . I think you not hit by algo. You just need improve authority because while you get 13 backlink your competitor get 1300,
So look from google eyes.

Well, normal google shuffle.

The only way to have some stability in SEO is to be Huge Authority in your Niche in Both Size and Backlinks. As long as you are someone who is trying to hang there, you must get hit. Because google isn't a charity organization, SEO is just there to market it's paid service *PPC*

So, you can't stay in top positions for long. You get a test of its traffic, know how it feels, then get hit to turn into PPC.

Right when one of my white hat blogs started climbing up after 1 year of hard work, Google decided to surprise me with a gift.

Now, a villain is born who will keep posting AI articles on other websites.

Is this a lost cause too? Traffic didn't drop to 0 but did take a nose dive. Average position dropped by around 3 points too.

I dont know about you guys but if I were you I would go full metal jacket on google (read black hat) if google did that to me.

you're correct, but you've missed his point: he wanted to go WHITE HAT, and white hat means that you only abide by google's preaching, so if google says don't build links because it's against our rules and we penalize you, you implicitly assume that doing what google says is the right move (which it isn't).

So, the guy wanted to get into google's good graces hoping that he'd be forever protected by google's hammer because if google says something and you obey they have no reasons to hammer you, right?

That's why he only has 13 backlinks, but now - given the state he's in - watch him hammer his site with 1000s of links and outrank everyone because of the advantage he has over his competition due to the stellar content :D

Yes it also got hit but lower than our sites. Most probably will recover.
I'll keep adding content for this year and tighten my topical clusters. If it still doesn't move the needle I'll call it a day.
have you checked if it is specific posts or the whole website yet?
I lost around 8-10 snippets and got moved to 2nd or 3rd position. The snippets are dominated by low quality non-niche sites.

Trust me I'd have done the same but going full blackhat needs huge investments which I have none of.
I'll try AI pumping in another expired domain I acquired.

Thanks for the answer, at least it isnt a full site snippet ban, 2022 still gives me shivers.

It does seem like a site wide snippet ban to me :)
Lost all the 8-10 snippets I had. Traffic dropped to half (currently averaging 30-39 clicks a day)

Just got to keep going, that's what I am going to do I suppose, but maybe with less expectation and effort.

I am just thinking surely if you keep going and give it a year or two then it should be fine. (I am in for long haul).

But then I see sites that have been going years and years being hit, it's very off putting.

Seems only the big sites have nothing to worry about.

True. I have been in the blogging sphere for a long time and the only websites that never got affected were the big fishes that have headquarters in several countries and have a big staff of writers.

Seems that migration to analytics G4 hits you when old analytics stopped collecting data. It happened to me also, and once I migrated to G4 the problem was solved. The fall is too abrupt.

Almost the same on my side. Spending chunks of money and the a google core update. Boom! Gone from rankings.

google did the same crap to me, that's why I focus on bing, not saying bing is going to give same results but iv'e been happy with them
How do you focus on Bing? Is there anything different one needs to do?

Is it the same translated content site? I have a site with translated content, and it was hit in this update.

It's different for different web-sites and web-masters.
For example, a lot of people say that AI content is great for SEO :)
