Text Message Marketing

There are 2 protocols to txt msg one being SMTP(Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) and then SMPP(Short Message Peer-to-Peer). SMTP is the standard email sending protocol and SMPP routes the message through a gateway that connects directly to the carrier. I believe SMPP is much more common these days in terms of text messaging and harder to regulate against spam as it's not through the traditional mail transfer protocol.

I am not saying go crazy and start spamming texts to all kinds of numbers as that can probably get you a subpoena pretty quickly even though prosecution in this area is a completely different story. I'm going to look more into this, the legalities with can-spam and how to legitimize sms-gateways through SMPP. Quality thread and informative replies.

@thecpakid: I have huge databases of opt-in number I purchased when running a mobile campaign but they aren't cheap .. if you have 1-2k for some numbers PM me and we can work out a deal.

I work in the Telco space in the wireless industry and inquired about this with some company attorneys:

If using SMTP to send messages to a cell phone then can-spam rules will fully apply.

If using SMPP, which basically is a vpn connection to the carriers SMSC, then at the moment can-spam does not apply. There is another act called TCPA (Telephone Consumer Protection Act ) which prohibits the sending of messages ?to any telephone number assigned to a paging service, cellular telephone service, specialized mobile radio service, or other radio common carrier service, or any service for which the called party is charged".

Although we are falling into a gray area since SMPP not directly stated in the act, keep in mind that this law was written in 1991 pre-SMPP. The intent of the TCPA is to make sure that consumers expressly consent to automated calls or messages sent to wireless devices which SMPP MAY fall into.

Personally I would not spam cell phones unless you are looking for trouble. If you have lots of money for lawyers then you can go ahead and fight the telco claiming SMPP is not included in the TCPA. The attorneys working in my company believe you will get squashed if it came to that.

This applies to Canada and U.S. Not sure about the rest of the world.
 
The program is very intuitive, but I'm wondering if it actually works or am i missing something? I sent 600 texts in a short time including my email address in the message to test it, but got 0 responses. If they reply from their phone does it go to the email address you sent it from or does it get lost?

The really nice part of this program is the phone number scraping in like 1 second (are they real numbers !?)

after i sent it i get about 500 messages in my spam folder from the messages being rejected !

So AT&T rejected them all. the generated numbers are all in increments of 3. is this legit?

oops meant increments of 1. Anyway im wondering what percent of the numbers, if any, actually go through, or is AT&T blocking it or a malfunctioning carrier.

ok i've fully tested the "unlimited" version now.. Sorry for the idiotic posts. It definately works, but you need a VERY LARGE VOLUME of texts to effectively hit alot of people with this, as in leaving it on for a very long time. But that shouldn't be an issue, you just need to buy the $200 UNLIMITED version because you'll need ALOT MORE THAN 10,000 SENDS.. One nice thing about this is that you can hit the people in your area, but thats also a bit of a pain in the ass if you want to spread out your hits. Program could be greatly improved, really needs better protection, and it hits bugs every once in a while. The best part is that it requires very little bandwidth, as opposed to most other posting methods I've seen. The batch sending puts the strain on google.

To sum it up, the program sends messages to a bunch of randomly generated numbers very quickly, like a brute force password cracker LOL, and a few of them just happen to be real mobile numbers. Earlier I stupidly thought it scraped numbers from some network.

its a nice software easy to use but it is a hit and miss deal
 
i'm fairly sure you can just SMTP to the servers that the phone companies have...
(but it might be something completely different)

Is Auto Text Mailer still up for purchase. I can't find them anywhere. It looks like Google may have had a circus with them and are trying to crack them down. All of there links everywhere are broken and even their Youtube vids have been deleted.

Any comments on this? Anyone?

Do these messages end up becoming "premium messages" that people get billed for by their provider?
 
For a $20 a month pay as you go card, can send unlimited sms with many companies.... just sync it to your computer with a program like smscaster. This program seems to one up that, since it can generate random numbers....
 
As of today Ham Blaster will support mass text messaging. The amount you can send will be unlimited. More info to come soon, at which point I will outline the benefits of using our software for mobile marketing.
 
good luck with this... Its a good idea however i know as a fact if you do it your can get nailed very quickly by the fcc.
 
I dont know how responsive these people are. I have gotten a couple spam texts and it did not intrigue me to go to the site at all, just pissed me off.
 
ive got a shit load of mobile emails from all diffrent major carriers the text mailer software was a joke thats why its gone now sms marketing is huge and has the highest readership than anything under sun so being able to put your link on thousands of phones is a realllll big deal and when advertising shit like ringtone offers or anything to do with mobile phones your golden theres tons of money to be made here
and like mentioned above there might be risks involved but its the risks you take that puts big money in your pocket
